Description
A very rare Chrysler Avenger 1. 6GL finished in Imperial red with just over 40, 000 miles on the clock and only 3 local owners from new.
After a lengthy of storage, in 2019 the car underwent a photographic restoration to a 'better than new' standard. Very little metal work was needed compared to many vehicles of this age, but it was still treated to a pair of brand new genuine wings.
After the car was fully disassembled, the underside was sand blasted, repaired, 3M stone chipped and painted on a rotisserie.
The rest to the exterior was stripped to bare metal, repaired where necessary and repainted in the original colour. Original fitment coach lines were sourced, along with any new trim that could be improved upon and sourced.
The interior was retrimmed and new rubber door and window seals were used throughout.
The original 1. 6L engine was refreshed with new gaskets and repainted in the correct shade of blue. The original radiator was refreshed and all the hoses were checked and changed as necessary. As with most restorations of this standard, all of the mechanical components we're dismantled, inspected and restored with new components used where necessary.
On the single Stromberg carburetor, standard electronic ignition and stainless sports exhaust, the power produced is more than enough to keep up with modern traffic and similarly equipped vehicles of its age with good fuel economy.
It has had a couple of upgrades from its original dealer specification, including original Chrysler H4 Halogen headlamps, a full custom made stainless steel sports exhaust system, additional passenger chrome mirror, 5 Rostyle wheels wearing new 175/ 70/ R13 Toyo tyres and now running silicone brake fluid through the rebuilt braking system.
Also included with the sale are a dealership repair manual, dealership parts list book, dealership service bulletin folder and various brochures, period literature and regalia. There are a number of items kept after the restoration as spares that will also be included.
Specification:
1. 6GL standard spec engine (Single Stromberg carburetor, electronic ignition, electric cooling fan), H4 Halogen headlamps, dealer fitted black vinyl roof, drivers door mirror, optional passenger door mirror, five Rostyle wheels, Chrysler push button stereo, quartz-activated clock, full sports six pod instrumentation to include; large speedometer and rev counter, oil pressure gauge, voltmeter, water temperature gauge and fuel gauge.
If you're looking for a comparable alternative to a pricey 1600 Escort or Cortina or an affordable entry into classic car ownership, you'll struggle to find many vehicles as usable, rare, interesting and in this condition, in this price range as one of these Mk2 Avengers.
The price is negotiable and viewing is obviously advised, but once seen and its unique story heard, its hard to ignore the way it makes you feel. Bought new from the local dealership less than half a mile away from its eventual homes, the car has enjoyed a pampered and sheltered life... it even retains both sets of original keys and leather dealer key fob.
Ziebarted from new, the car was always well maintained by a local mechanic, who would eventually inherit the car.
Since the restoration the car attends numerous local shows with much attention and appreciation, but its now time to let a new enthusiastic owner enjoy its pleasant charm and aura.
