The one and only Campagnolocar is a faithful, and detailed recreation of the 1983/ 84 Giro d’Italia Campagnolo ‘Assistenza Servizio Corse’ (Technical Racing Service) cycle racing support car. It is based on a UK RHD S123 280TE Wagon from 1982 which has had extensive bodywork and mechanical refurbishment as well as the detailed livery, the classic ‘triple horn’ Airhorns which always brings a smile to anyone’s face and custom made roof rack which fits 5 complete road bikes and 9 wheels.
It runs and drives beautifully and confirms the legendary reputation of the 123 series as being reliable to the point of being virtually indestructible. I have driven to numerous rallies and cycling festivals far and wide including Belgium and it has never put a foot wrong. I have owned her for 5 years and in that time have brought it up to a decent mechanical condition with the brakes being overhauled with new discs and calipers all round (refurbed calipers on the back), new front springs, new reconditioned petrol tank fitted.
The bodywork is solid and rust free. All in all a good honest and mechanical ally sound car that has another 200, 000 miles and more left on her.
Quite apart from its celebrity status the S123 Wagons are appreciating in value as you will know so this represents a particularly attractive opportunity for the right buyer. Campagnolocar is the only Campagnolo Assistenza team car recreation in the world and has been featured at numerous cycling festivals including Velo Retro in the Lake District, Retro Rhonde in Oudenaarde Belgium, Bicester Heritage, and of course Goodwood. It won Best in show at Wayne Hemingways Classic Carboot Kings Cross in 2003 and has its own Instagram account with nearly 1k followers. @campagnolocar

I bought her in Sept 2020 with this specific project in mind after spending a year looking for the right base car. Then lockdown hit and another year researching and commissioning the livery (which are vinyl decals so removable if you so wish) and commissioning the unique rack which is a total one off and a thing of beauty in its own right. I have had grown men going all mushy with admiration for the rack alone.
Wherever you drive the car, whether cyclists or not, it never fails to bring a smile to people’s faces, from the woman pushing her buggy to the old guy on his way to buying the Sunday papers and everyone in between, I guarantee I’ve seen them all, grinning as soon as they catch sight of her. In a sea of cars she’s an out and out extrovert.
