Description

1989 Golf 1. 3 4 speed 3dr.
I rescued this car 3yrs ago, it had been sat in someones garden with the door open for 20yrs, it did resemble something dredged up from the Titanic so has had A LOT of work done.
This car was not professionally restored, it has however been very loving restored and revived by myself at home so please dont expect perfection, as are most classics this is still an ongoing project but a very useable and honest car.
The car has now gone through 3 MOTs which is a proud achievement for me. I have full photographic evidence of all the work done.
So with me it has had (possibly more i have forgotten):
Welding, front jacking point driver side, battery tray, 2 patches to floor, 3 patches to passenger front inner arch, full sill driver side, rear half of sill passenger side.
An engine swap, the engine was changed to a less rusty one of the same spec, engine has 54k miles with evidence.
Gearbox refurbished and new clutch.
Engine mounts all new.
Brakes, alternator, starter, suspension all changed.
Exhaust is a Scorpion system from the downpipe back.
Wheels are 14" period Ronals which came with the car.
Headlights have upgraded loom.
Front seats and carpet replaced but do not match back bench.
Dash replaced. New radiator. New heater matrix. New blower motor.
Fuse Box replaced. New battery. Brake pipes all replaced.

The car runs very well, it has its original Pierberg carb with auto choke. It starts easily, idles, will drive long distances, has done short stints as a daily when needed and I would trust it to go anywhere. The exhaust is a little loud, I personally like it.
It only has 4 gears but will still cruise happily at 65mph, more if you wanted to push it but I drive it nicely!

It would not come with the private number plate. It is a G reg.

The things I know about that are on the list of 'to do's' but are not urgent...
It has 3 small holes in the rear driver window frame, this is where the door card trim clips have rusted. For now I have just cleaned it up and put ally tape over to ensure it is not letting water in anywhere. Ideally it needs the window taken out to sort.
The boot floor has a few holes, you cannot notice these because the fuel tank covers it from underneath and I have sealed the boot with insulation padding, they are not doing any harm, not big, not structural, I rust treated before I covered it but just being honest!
It could do with 4 tyres for the next MOT because they have cracks in them probably from sitting on the driveway.
There is some rust on the arches, they were rust treated and covered by the plastic trims, I know its there but other people dont so I have just left it alone!
The paint work is rough. The roof is very thin, there are places that are very scratched, there are areas that have been painted with a rattle can, it would only take someone with some attention to detail a day to go around it and tidy it up.

Ive taken it all over the UK to shows and always get people wanting to chat about its story and interested in how it has been saved!

So that's about it, I've been super honest because I cannot deal with people coming to look and going around it picking fault, I have put so much time, effort, money and love in to this and I hope someone can appreciate it and carry on with it. Please don't turn up and start poking at it with a screwdriver or trying to adjust cables or screws, if you want to fiddle with it you need to buy it first! I am still on the fence about selling it but there is something I really want to buy and I have no more space on my driveway so I am leaving it up to fate!Regularly serviced. Cambelt/ water pump done when engine was changed.
