Description
Mercedes 500SL in the most desirable colour combination of metalic diamond blue with contrasting cream leather upholstery. This is a very rare version of the SL having been factory fitted with air conditioning. As well as the A/ C the car is also fitted with the option extras of heated front seats, leather rear seats an an external temperature gauge. There is also a Pioneer FM/ CD stereo with a USB port and an AUX input jack all connected to an automatic electric aerial.
A full restoration was carried out in 2017 and there is a photographic record and report from Investor Classics in the history file. The car has done only 1500 since restoration. A 35, 000 mile comprehensive service has just been carried out by SL specialists Colin Fern Ltd of Richmond and the air conditioning has recently had an extensive overhaul by Alpinair which included a regas, new compressor and new air drier. The 15'' Mercedes Gullideckel alloy wheels have recently been fitted with a new set of tyres.
The condition of the coachwork is superb with no rust or scratches and the blue mohair hood is recent and hardly used. The matching diamond blue hardtop with its cream headlining are also in immaculate condition.
The 5. 0 litre V8 engine really gives this car some grunt but with the 4 speed automatic gearbox, power steering and power brakes it is an easy car to drive and comfortable at motorway speeds or in heavy traffic. A new advisory free MOT has just been carried out which is valid until September 2026. The existing private plate TUI 1310 will stay on the car and as the SL is already 40 years old the car will soon qualify for DVLA 'Historic Vehicle' status. This means that the car will be exempt from Road Tax, MOT and ULEZ charges. The SL took part in the 2025 London to Brighton Classic Car Run in June and proved to be a very popular and much photographed entrant. This SL is a truly timeless classic with the added benefit that it drives and has the comfort of a modern car.
