Description
2018 AC Cobra 289 by Hawk Cars Limited -
Blue with Cream Leather Seats and Door Pockets, Black Leather covered Dashboard, and Stainless Steel Wire Wheels with Blockley Tyres. Also equipped with a Black Mohair Hood, Tonneau and Side Screens for full weather protection (well almost). The car is in excellent condition, everything works as it should and has a recent MOT with no advisories.
First registration was obtained by me in May 2018 following a successful first-time pass of the IVA Test some two months earlier. This is the second Hawk I have completed having previously built a Hawk AC Ace and retain to this day.
Power is supplied by a fully refurbished 1966 Ford 289 Small Block V8 mated to a new Tremec T5 five speed gearbox. This transmits to the rear wheels via an MGC Rear Axle on Leaf Springs with additional location by Panhard Rod and Tie Bars, damped by adjustable Telescopic Shock Absorbers.
The front suspension consists of MG uprights with Hawk’s own Double Wishbones and adjustable Coilover Telescopic Shock Absorbers. Steering is by Rack and Pinion. Also present are a Petrol Tank in Stainless Steel, Aluminium Radiator with electric fan, Hawk Twin Pot Front Brake Callipers with Servo and Stainless Steel Twin Exhausts exiting at the rear.
This is a practical car to maintain with components readily available. All parts for the build were supplied by Hawk Cars themselves.
I am a big fan of AC cars and as well as the two Hawks I also own a 1927 AC Royal and a 1952 AC Saloon - original Aces and Cobras were well out of my pay scale hence the two replicas. Also in the stable is a Healey 3000 which I have owned for 53 years and an MGA. With my advancing age I now find it increasingly difficult to keep them all fettled and need to reduce numbers to a more manageable level hence this sale. The Cobra is registered on the 289 Register where I am a member and my article on obtaining the IVA certificate may be found on the 289 Register website.
I carry out my own servicing and the Cobra always receives the attention it deserves with regular fluid changes, new filters and lubrication. I have garage receipts for all work undertaken that I could not do myself. There is a good history file with the car including photographs, copies of the IVA certificate and a V5c in my name.
The car has proved very reliable over the past 7 years and been used on various road trips including several times to the Le Mans Classic and Scotland. Every time the engine is started on this car, a simple journey turns into an occasion to savour, there is nothing else quite like the burble of a classic Ford V8.
