Description
The Citroën GS ("Grande Série", literally translated as "Large Series"), later GSA, is a passenger car from the French car manufacturer Citroën. Between autumn 1970 and mid-1986, 2. 5 million examples were produced. Most of them rolled off the production line at the Rennes factory. The GS was named Car of the Year in 1971.
The car we offer here is a specimen from October 1977. This Frenchman moved from France to the Netherlands in 2010 to be lovingly pampered on its "old" day here. The previous owner has owned the Citroën GS since 2020 and in those years the car has been used for a number of enjoyable trips. The car is technically in excellent condition of maintenance. Driving this classic Citroën GS is a delightful experience.
Of course, a car of this age also has a point to note: on the left-hand side at the lower edge of the doors the GS is starting to show a few age-related niggles. Not something that makes driving less enjoyable, but over time the car may well need a little love here..
Introduction
"The GS is a hyper-modern, original car that fully meets all the requirements that today’s motorist could possibly set. It has the excellent – already more than 20 years proven – hydropneumatic suspension system. The same as on the Citroën CX. So also the same rock-solid roadholding, the same constant ride height. Bumps, potholes … the GS takes no notice. It continues on its way undisturbed. Furthermore, front-wheel drive and four high-pressure assisted disc brakes. The instrument panel in the dashboard forms a clear unit.
In a single glance you see everything. A comparable level of comfort you will not find anywhere – except with the Citroën CX. Its handsome progressive line and completely aerodynamically shaped form harmonise fully with its characteristics. And to make it even more attractive, there is not one but as many as six GS models. From the Spécial to the Pallas. There is a GS for you as well." (Source: GS brochure Spring 1976)
One of the two initial GS typings, intended for the base version, as was customary at Citroën at the time. Outside the French-speaking areas the term "Confort" is meaningless. Therefore Citroën dropped the term after only two years. From model year 1973 there is talk of the GS and the GS 1220.

The differences between the Confort and the Club
In the interior the Confort features: grab handles in place of armrests, different seats and rear bench, rubber mats instead of carpet, no trim on B- and C-pillar, lower edge of doors and walls of the boot, only the left door’s interior lighting working, no tachometer, odometer, clock or cigarette lighter, no day/ night mirror on the inside rearview mirror. On the outside the Confort can be recognised by: body-colour painted window surrounds, the absence of the stainless strip around the front and rear windscreen, the absence of rubber strips on the front bumper.
Absolutely a car to enjoy, finished in a characteristic 1970s colour.. The car we offer here is a specimen from October 1977.
