Description
Registered in January 1955, this early car is a very clean and tidy example and has been with its current owner since 2013. Prior to their purchase, the car had been subjected to a full body-off chassis restoration with an engine build by Sigma Engineering (one of the country’s leading Jaguar engine preparers). In the years since, the car has been well maintained and has recently been serviced and recommissioned after not being used for the last few years. A new fuel tank and gauge sender have been fitted and the brake system overhauled with a new master cylinder. The front dampers have also been replaced with new adjustable AVO units.
The car drives and handles very well, the engine is strong and the overdrive gearbox performs as expected.
Although not concours, the body and paintwork are in good condition and the chassis and running gear are solid and well maintained. The foldable hood and hood frame works as it should and the removable side screens are present along with a tonneau cover for covering the cockpit when the hood is down. The interior trim is tidy and the exterior chrome polishes up nicely. A very usable Classic with a good history file.

Chassis improvements included rack and pinion steering replacing the Burman recirculating ball system, telescopic dampers replacing the dated lever arm type and better brakes. The interior gained more space with improved legroom for taller drivers and although the exterior was very similar to the XK120’s sleek lines, it now had substantially bigger bumpers with overriders. Jaguar’s proven 3. 4 litre straight-6 XK engine with high lift camshafts from the SE 120 was fitted to the the XK140 as standard.
