How it drives

Typical 2CV: light steering, eager air-cooled twin and that wonderfully supple ride. Starts first time and runs beautifully.

A little 2CV history

Citroën launched the 2CV in 1948 as an ultra-simple, affordable people’s car—famously designed to carry a basket of eggs across a ploughed field without breaking one. With its roll-back roof, interlinked long-travel suspension and air-cooled twin-cylinder engine, the 2CV6 (the later 602cc version) became the best-known model. Production ran until 1990 and more than five million 2CVs of all types were built, earning the affectionate nickname Deux Chevaux (or “Tin Snail”).

A lovely, well-sorted French classic with great colours, long ownership and excellent provenance. Viewing welcome; serious enquiries only, please. Why We Bought It — And Why You’ll Love It
We’ve had a soft spot for Citroëns since the 1970s and have owned several over the years. The 2CV always felt like the purest expression of what we love about the marque: clever simplicity, comfort over speed, and buckets of character. This car had all the iconic touches that drew us in, the roll-back canvas roof, light steering, the dash-mounted gear lever and that wonderfully supple ride, so when a good, honest 2CV6 came up with the right history, we bought it and kept it.
Why you’ll love it:
• It drives beautifully. Starts first turn, pulls keenly and floats along in the way only a good 2CV can.
• Cherished from new. Just three careful owners in total, with long-term ownership and meticulous maintenance.
• Proven, not pampered to death. The big jobs have been done (engine rebuild, panels, exhaust, roof, Waxoyl’d chassis), so you can simply enjoy it.
• Useable classic. Easy to live with, easy to park, roof back at the first hint of sun, pure smiles-per-mile.
• Great community and support. Plenty of knowledge, clubs and parts around, making ownership straightforward.
If you’re after a 2CV that delivers the charm, the colour and the proper drive, this one will make you grin every time you turn the key.
