Description
The Mercedes 170 S-D presented here is an interesting model.
Its roots date back to the pre-war era.
Over the years, the 170 model itself underwent various changes to its engines, suspension, and interior trim.
It was offered in various body styles, from convertible to station wagon. In addition to purely civilian versions, they were also used as ambulances and police cars.
Sales of the Mercedes 170 S-D were directed at company directors and presidents. It is considered the ancestor of the current S-Class. The 170 S-D also marked the beginning of diesel engines in passenger cars. The inline four-cylinder 1755cc diesel engine accelerates the vehicle to 100 km/ h in 56 seconds and achieves a fuel consumption of 6. 1 L/ 100 km. Diesel-powered models gained popularity due to the price and availability of the fuel in the 1950s, as well as the low demand for it. Therefore, they were often used as taxis, where they were valued for their reliability and low failure rate. Production of the 170 S-D model ended in September 1955.
The presented car is a 170 SD model manufactured in Argentina. The overall condition of the car is very good – it has been recently restored.
A full engine restoration was carried out in 2018, and all work is documented.
The car is operational, registered, and ready for use.
