Description
Ex British Army Land Rover Defender 90 with very low mileage. Only 21, 000 miles from new. I purchased it from someone I know and am only the second owner since it left the army. Originally a 2. 5 non-turbo diesel it was so lacking in power it was unusable, I fitted a low mileage 3. 5 rover v8 on carbs from an early land rover discovery, at the same time the gearbox was replaced with a rebuilt unit which was a very rare original v8 LT77 gearbox. The engine runs sweetly with plenty of power and was set up by renowned rover v8 specialists Lloyds Special Developments. The conversion was done using as many genuine parts as possible and without straying too far from standard to make sure it is serviceable in future. It could make an ideal low mileage base for a cosmetic restoration but I personally love the patina and flaking army paint. The car has disc brakes all round and a rollover protection bar. Other than the engine the only upgrades are bigger tyres, civilian type seats, civilian type tow bar and a PVC hood. The bodywork is scruffy and it is rough and ready so please don't judge it by concourse standards! Mechanically sound and structurally solid. The original chassis is in remarkably good condition. This car really comes into its own with the tilt rolled up or taken off in the summer, the v8 burbles nicely and has plenty of ooomph. Practical fun weekend car for towing, dog walking, pub trips etc, that always gets a comment and turns heads. Comes with rear bench seats. It is great fun to use. Selling as my decade long series land rover project is nearing completion and the two are too similar to keep both!
