Description

1971 VW Early Bay window danbury camper. This is an extremely original and usable bus that we have enjoyed many trips in over the past 20years when I became only the third owner. The bus has been meticulously looked after during this time in every aspect and whilst not a concourse example you will be hard pressed to find a better or more genuine bay. This is a very rare survivor bus in that it has been maintained and kept on the road for the majority of it's life and hasn't undergone a restoration to lose it's originality like the vast majority of these buses on the market. I have the original bill of sale from 1971 when a Reverend in Co Antrim purchased it new and used it regularly over the next number of years before it was put into storage in the early 80s and only made annual trips to the MOT centre before he had to part with his beloved bus in the late 1990s. It's also rare to find that it still shows its original CoAntrim registration number (and the original numberplates) as most buses here have either been imported from the UK or USA. The stamped original service book shows work being carried out by Robert Murray's VW of Toome. This same renowned VW family have still looked after the bus mechanically since my purchase in 2004. Unfortunatly the original engine had to be replaced around 10years ago with a unit that was fully rebuilt by the Murrays.
I had to make the decision to have the bus painted from the roof down 12 years ago to ensure its preservation due to a number of stoneships etc. More recently it had repairs to the arches and a new rear bumper fitted, but otherwise it still retains all its original panels meaning that all shut lines etc are still as they left the factory. Inside the interior front and back are as they should be with original covers etc and still all in great shape. Whilst most campers had a white top half and a pop top roof or similar this conversion retained the original tintop in neptune blue which really makes it stand out from other bays.
Much regretted sale after over 20years of ownership.
