Description
1959 Morgan 4/ 4 “Competition” – Aquaplane Upgraded
This 1959 Morgan 4/ 4 in ivory is fitted with desirable period Aquaplane and “Competition” upgrades – a rare specification that sets it apart from early 4/ 4s, especially with its extensive history. Perfect for an enthusiast looking for a piece of usable British motoring history.
Originally sold to Mr J. Baldwin in August ’59, the car then remained with the Howe family for most of its life until the mid-2000s. It underwent a significant restoration in the late 1980s and has covered only limited miles since, recently recommissioned for road use.
With just 25, 350 miles recorded and only four previous keepers (one family for the majority of its life), this Morgan comes with a substantial history file including documents and period photographs.
Recent work includes:
Brand new twin SU carburettors (ideal with the Ford Aquaplane upgrades)
All fluids, plugs, and carb service completed
Folder of recent receipts
Supplied with a full period workshop manual
I’ve enjoyed regular 40-mile runs along the coast this summer – she runs and drives, but as with any 66-year-old classic, a little fettling will always improve things further.
Included:
Full weather equipment: hood, side screens, tonneau covers
Historic vehicle status: MOT and road tax exempt
YouTube walkaround: - details above
V5 in my name at my current address
Viewings and inspections welcome.
Only selling as I’m now seeking a pre-CX Plus 4 for touring – part-exchange considered.
Payment by BACS/ bank transfer only prior to collection. The “Competition” engine upgrade was recorded in the logbook in 1965 (on file). Only 37 Competition Series 2 cars were ever built, and it’s believed this example was upgraded in-period to factory specification. Aquaplane parts remain readily available today.
Extensive history file.
