Description
SOLD!!!!! 1977 Registered (76MY) SAAB 99 EMS 118bhp.
Please note this ad has been extensively revised, I have also added fresh photo's.
Those following this sale will have noted the price has dropped since first listed.
My SAAB 99 EMS is up for sale because I am not using it as much as it deserves to be used.
Due to work commitments, it has only been out of the garage around half a dozen times over the past 18 months and in that time has covered less than 200 miles, it really needs to be used more. I have therefore decided to offer it up for sale for another enthusiast to use and enjoy. Plus I have recently purchased a C900 that is easier on my arthritic neck, shoulders and hands as it has power steering.
The EMS has just over 84K on the clock. It is Tax and MOT exempt, however I did MOT it in Feb 2024 following then engine rebuild. This was a clean sheet no advisories MOT following some adjustments on emissions and headlamp aim, not bad considering it had been 19 years since its last MOT. As stated already the EMS has covered less than 200 miles since.
A full body & suspension restoration and a partial engine rebuild was completed approximately 3 years ago. Restoration work included a full bare metal respray, with just a very small, localized area of rust requiring to be cut out with new metal welded in. The remainder of the bodywork is solid and original. New original spec suspension was fitted throughout including new Bilstein shock absorbers along with poly bushes, a new front windscreen, new radiator, new brake callipers, full stainless exhaust system, Bosch electronic ignition, HEL braided brake lines and fuel lines, the fuelling system was also professionally refurbished. Uniroyal tyres were fitted all round including the spare, which is a matching alloy, plus lots more.
The original interior is in excellent condition and had a new headlining fitted during restoration. The EMS also retains its original sport & rally steering wheel. There are three keys and the original handbook is in the glovebox. There is also a genuine SAAB period centre console fitted along with a period looking modern CD player. The vinyl roof is the original fitted by SAAB UK at point of sale.
As part of the restoration the EMS was fitted with genuine US spec EMS twin headlamps and grill, which is shown along with a rear window louvre in some of the photos. I have since removed the louvre and refitted the original Euro spec rectangular lamps and original grill. I have not refitted the headlamp wiper system as it requires overhauling, it is included in the sale should the buyer wish to recommission it.
In 2023 due to a seized jackshaft that resulted in a breakdown on route back from a show, the engine was rebuilt by a local to me race engineering company in conjunction with my local SAAB specialist at a cost of just under £4k. All receipts are available in the history file some of which I have included in the photos. These form part of the extensive history folder, which includes numerous receipts from the original restoration works and beyond.
The EMS is now running as she should be. But she really needs to be used more than she is currently to ensure she remains in good fettle.
I’m not going to say too much more about the car as I could go on about it forever. I would expect any genuinely interested person to message or preferably call for more details and to view the car.
The asking price reflects the condition, mileage and rarity. You will not find another EMS in this sort of condition currently for sale.
For info the SAAB Owners Club valuation service has valued this car at £25K and it is insured for that amount on an agreed value insurance policy. It is, however, offered here at a price to sell.
The US spec lamps and rear window louvre are not included in the sale. The louvre has already been sold, and the US lamps are advertised elsewhere.
I will however include the new and used spares shown in the photos, which includes paint left over from the respray, a rattle can made up by the paint company that supplied the paint for the respray, a set of original SAAB workshop manuals, brochures and a Haynes manual which are also shown in the photos.
The oil was last changed 100 miles after the engine rebuild, but I have included a carton of Castrol Oil ready for the next oil change.
I also have a few more high value spares than can be purchased separately if the new owner is interested.
The EMS is ready to roll with nearly ¾ of a tank of fuel remaining, which should get the new owner home or most of the way home if travelling a fair distance.
As stated above this is the last price drop before it goes to auction.
Please message or call me if you are genuinely interested in buying this lovely car.
Please no more dreamers, chancers or speculators.
