Description
Classic 1970's Tiger, matching numbers, still in original paint. US import from 2020. No history from the US predating this, but lots of paper since then. Bought from Triumph specialist Russel James in Bridgewater for £6k and had a complete engine rebuild at SRM for another £6k in 2022. Well cared for, plenty more money spent on bits and pieces including new Amal Premier carburettor; oil changed every 500 miles; dry garaged and now super reliable. Very original but now has electronic ignition and an external spin-off oil filter. Took part, and won awards, at the MotoGiro d'Italia and this year drove it down through France to take part in the MC Piston Rally in northern Spain. It could be repainted to look like a show pony, but there is increasing rarity and value in classic bikes that look properly vintage. Located in Bristol, welcome to view, hear and discuss. SW Motech Legend Gear panniers and tail bag included as well as a box of spare parts and a few useful specialist tools. Also have all the original parts that SRM replaced, should you want them. So, financially I am into this bike for about £14k and have no hope of recouping that, but it has brought immense pleasure and every journey successfully completed is a kind of win, so it has been worth every penny. Surprisingly it is super comfortable to ride and handles very well on any type of road including Italian hairpins. I'm 68 and was quite comfortable doing 200 miles a day in France. It's not fast - or at least I don't thrash it - but will cruise at 65 quite happily at 4000 rpm. Air cooled, right foot gear change and kick-start like a proper classic and that beautiful front conical drum brake. It was manufactured March 1972 as part of the 1972 model production run and I assume immediately exported to America as it has the tapered tank, western bars and side reflectors that were mandatory at the time.
