I have owned this vehicle for the past 27 years. I am now 74 and the time has come, unfortunately, to part with the Landcruiser.
In order to completely understand the background of the vehicle, I have to set out the strange pedigree it has. I bought the Landcruiser in 1998 when I lived in Vancouver, Canada. Due to the use of salt, on the roads, it had places on the body that were rusted through. However, the motor and transmission were in excellent condition. The motor had about 150, 000 kms on it at the time. I therefore searched for a Landcruiser with an excellent body. In 2006 I found a 1984 model in Texas with a bad 6 cylinder gas engine, but no rust. I had it shipped to Canada.
Fortunately, there was a mechanic in Vancouver who did nothing other than work on Landcruisers. He took the engine and transmission out of the 1984 Toyota and put them into the body from Texas. Unfortunately, the odometer reading on the Texas vehicle was about 100, 000 kms higher, but I did not care, as my intention was to keep the vehicle.
Shortly after the modification, I had the mechanic install a turbo-charger from Australia. Since the original purchase, I have invested about 25. 000 euros in the Landcruiser.
In 2014 we moved to Italy and took the Landcruiser with us. We had it registered in Italy as a classic. As copy of that registration is attached. Unfortunately, they incorrectly recorded some specifications (for example, saying that it was a 6-cylinder diesel). Fortunately they correctly recorded the serial number. We drive it every month or two for a few days, just to ensure that it is used. It has never been driven off-road in the 27years that I have owned it.
The motor and transmission are in excellent condition. The body is also very good, although there are 2 small spots around the windshield that should be repaired. As well, there is a crack in the dashboard. These issues are shown in attached photos.
The tires have less than 2000 km on them, the original tool bag is still there (including a crank to start the motor), there are several parts as well, including the A/ C unit which could be installed. And, of course, the original owners manual is in the Landcruiser.
The vehicle is currently at our home in Calabria, Italy and could be viewed there until early November. On about the 8th of November, if the Landcruiser has not been sold, we will drive it to Frankfurt, Germany, where it could be viewed. This vehicle is truly bulletproof. My other vehicles (usually BMWs) have let me down on occasion. But never the Landcruiser.
And, of course, it is a conversation piece wherever I go. Famous for its durability in Australia and Africa, people want to know all about the vehicle. And, this one has an interesting history!
Getting the Landcruiser registered as an Old Timer in Italy took about a year as, according to the association, it is the only Landcruiser of this model in Italy.
