A red Eunos with a tan soft top is not an obvious combination but it looks so good on this one. We've been preparing this 1994 Mazda Eunos 1. 8 over the last few weeks and have spent a great deal of time (and money) on ensuring it drives as well as it looks.
The car was imported into the UK in 2002 and has had the same owner for the last 15 years. Specification includes electric windows and mirrors, a Momo steering wheel, 14" hollow spoke alloys fitted with matching set of Falken tyres, Gemel immobiliser, black seats and trim and a decent Philips stereo with electric aerial.

While I'm a car dealer, I consider myself to be a car enthusiast above all else. I'll only sell cars that actual interest me as an enthusiast. I live and breath quick cars and have sold literally thousands of performance cars over a forty year period. I've had many thousands of MX5s through my hands and know their strengths and weaknesses well and I'm pretty good at spotting a good MX5 and at making one work to the best of its ability. Back to our car: its covered around 147000 km (92000 miles) and its just had lots of work including a full service (new spark plugs and silicone leads, new oil and filter and air filter), new water pump and cam belt, new cam angle sensor 'O' ring, new cam cover gasket and new coolant hoses and coolant along with a new MOT. Suspension, exhaust etc are all standard but for some reason, this one absolutely flies with noticeably strong torque from low down which makes it a real blast to drive. Wheel alignment has been correctly done and handling is just lovely.
Body work is excellent: most importantly sills and rear wheel arches are solid and rust free. Its the same with the front wings and windscreen pillars - all are sound and free from rust. Looking underneath the car, I can't see any signs of previous bodywork repairs underneath: floors, inner wheel arches etc are all in good sound condition. The rear wheel arch lip where they meet the rear wing and sill, are in good order with 99% of the spot welds still visible.
Paintwork is very good with just the odd blemish or stone chip here and there. Its a terrific looking car and way better than most out there. The tan hood was fitted new a few years ago and is in excellent condition and features a glass heated screen.
Inside the car, its all in good clean condition. Seats, carpet, door cards and trim are all in good order and all are free from holes or damage. A previous owner has fitted an alloy gear knob along with a clock (below the stereo). It also has a wind blocker fitted and has a tan tonneau cover included. Everything seems to work as it should though the air conditioning system has been removed (I'm guessing that it stopped working a few years ago, typical of most Eunos of this age).
Mechanically its all good too. As mentioned above, we've just carried out a huge amount of work on the engine and the car is now ready to be used and enjoyed. Clutch and gearbox are just as they should be too. Earlier this year, it had new rear brake discs and pads fitted, new front coil springs and new track rod ends.
Its no surprise that it drives so incredibly well. On this one, performance is strong and it loves being revved hard with a perfect gearchange feel. There are no rattles or odd noises and its really quite lovely to drive. Suspension is all in standard spec and has been set up nicely and as a result, handling is just typical MX5 - very good indeed while still retaining good ride quality. Get this on a good winding country road and its brilliant fun.
It has a huge history file containing a mountain of receipts for work done over the years along with around 20 old MOT certificates. There are two keys and immobiliser fobs and it even has its original tool kit. Its MOT tested until October 2026. In fact whenever I prepare a car for sale, I use my own MX5-based checklist which covers 80+ points and ensures that even the detail stuff is checked and any issues spotted and attended to. This includes all sorts of things such as hood catches, drain holes, electric windows, door locks, condition of coolant hoses right down to the state of the cigarette lighter. As part of my sales preparation process, I always like to cover a good 200 miles or so, so I can assess the car properly and attend to anything needed. It means that I end up with a car that is fit for purpose and should behave and drive just as a good MX5 should. As a sign of how confident I am in the condition of the car, if the asking price of £5495 is paid, I'll include 6 months warranty administered by Warranty First.
I'm based in Berwick on Tweed, near the Scottish Border and I can collect any prospective buyer from the local train station or I can arrange to have the car delivered by a trusted transport company at extra cost.
