Description
Fully restored 1992 Mini Sprite. I bought this car in 2017 and it has been meticulously restored over the last 8 years.
Body - Full bare shell respray in BMW San Marino Blue. Too many panels have been replaced to mention in full, but includes floor edges, outer sills, footwell area, door step repairs, flitch and A panels, scuttle panel, both wings, front panel, valance, rear subframe mounting area, door skins. The underside has 2 coats of epoxy mastic primer and stonechip under the colour and clear. The rest has epoxy primer under the high build primer and top coats. Cavities, doors etc are protected by zinc primer and Bilt Hamber Dynax S50. A huge amount of effort has gone into making this car rust free for now and long into the future.
Engine - Rebuilt 1293 Metro A+ engine with fresh rebore, new pistons, main and big end bearing, cam bearings, Minispares Evo1 cam, new followers, lightly modified head with new unleaded inserts and measured 10:1 compression ratio, new valve springs and seals. Rebuilt Hif44 carb with BDL needle. Minispares evo modified distributor. Modified standard airbox with K&N element. LCB and RC40 exhaust system. New alternator.
Gearbox - Rebuilt gearbox with new 2nd gear synchro hub and mainshaft bearing. New or good used baulk rings. Moly diff pin and new planet gear bushes.
Brakes - Rebuilt front calipers with stainless pistons. Grooved discs and mintex pads. At the rear new cylinders and shoes fitted. New cupro nickel brake lines and new flexi hoses. New master cylinder.
Suspension - Solid mounted front subframe. Adjustable lower arms and tierods. New balljoints, bushes, upper arm shaft and bearings. New track rod ends. At the rear the radius arm bushes have been replaced and new shafts fitted. It has Minispares toe and camber brackets fitted. New KYB Gas adjust shocks. New wheel bearings all round. The rear subframe is new and has been fully welded and fitted with new bushes. All applicable suspension/ hub components and the subframes have been painted in epoxy mastic with 2k black over the top. Most of the parts were shot blasted first.
Interior - Spi seats newly trimmed with MPI style covers (from JCS custom trim). New drivers seat diaphragm. New rear seat cover and door cards to match. New dash rail covers. New carpets. New seatbelts. Rebuilt heater with new matrix. 3 clock dash. Radio/ CD player and 2 parcel shelf speakers. New steering wheel.
Exterior - New Mk1 style front grille. New stainless bumpers. New door and window seals. New windscreen and rear screen. Custom arches. New headlights and rear lens covers. 13x7 Superlight style wheels (JBW ones).
Paperwork - There is a file of old invoices and MOTs to verify the mileage back to 1995. There are also loads of parts invoices including for the recent engine work.
This car was MOT'd in August with no advisories. I have since done approx 300 miles to iron out any issues after such a long time off the road. It has been 100% reliable and has just needed some tinkering with the carb and the supsension set up. I had hoped to finish this car about 5 years ago! But a house move and other priorites meant it has taken a back seat. I always intended to sell it pretty soon after it was finished. It has been an absolute labour of love.
