Description
Selling my little 1989 4th Generation Toyota Celica GTi coupe automatic, as spares or repair, due to a couple of faults that I haven’t time or money to invest in.
I’m the 3rd owner of this car, 2 previous very long term owners, of which the previous keeper made it his daily driver, until replacing it in late 2024.
I bought it with no mot and got it back on the road, after 7 months of not being used.
It had a brand new alternator, oil and filter, pretty much went through the mot with over £400 spent.
I used it several times and started to notice on a noise in the gearbox… which is a bearing of some sort, most likely going to need opening up and replacing!! Something I’m not budgeted to do.
The arches are all a bit scabby… it’s going to want rust treatment and the lower half repainting.
I’m going to go ahead and do all this work next year, if it doesn’t sell beforehand. I’ve more interest in it again now, so this listing may disappear accordingly.
Other recent work includes oil change and sparkplugs, head gasket and reskim in 2023, battery in early 2025, thermostat and radiator in 2023, stainless exhaust in 2016… lots of receipts prior to those
But for now, if anyone else wants to take it on, it does drive beautifully and smoothly, no knocks and bangs, just a noise in the gearbox.
I’d advise trailering it away because I’ve no clue how long the car will last with a faulty transmission. .
The basis is there to be brilliant again, I will sell it as is or if I get it all sorted, it’ll be a £7k car next year.
Great project, SUPER RARE, mot until August 2026!
On the back of this, I also have a perfect running 1988 Cabriolet for sale, (also here on cars and classics) which I was VERY tempted to take the radiator/ alternator/ exhaust off the coupe and fit to the Cabriolet… but the cabriolet is fine as it is and is fully useable and ready to go.
I’d happily try to do a deal on both cars being sold as a pair??
Might be open to a swap or px, but I’d probably want something equally as fun or of a similar era.
