Description
This is a rare 1962 Matchless G15/ 45, fully restored back to its original factory specification. It was originally built for the US market, with only 100 made in 1962 and just 212 produced in total across 1962–63, making this a highly collectible AMC model.
The bike has been carefully brought back to how it left the factory, including its correct blue paint with Old English White mudguards. This colour blue was uncovered during the restoration when the original paint was found beneath later layers.
Now fully restored, it starts easily, runs smoothly, and delivers the strong performance expected from a 750cc twin. It’s a bike you can enjoy riding as much as you can appreciate owning.
It’s in excellent condition and would suit a collector, enthusiast, or someone looking for a classic that can still be used and enjoyed on the road. It was even featured on the front cover of Jampot Magazine (June 2025)
A bit of history
This particular G15/ 45 was built in 1962 for export to the US and later became part of the Geoff Myers collection. We bought it in 2016 as an unfinished project and have taken the time to research, document, and restore it.
It’s also featured in Michael Partridge’s catalogue of G15/ 45 motorcycles, where it appears in its previous red and black finish. During restoration, everything was stripped back by hand, revealing the original blue paint underneath — which is why it’s now been returned to its correct factory colours.
The restoration was carried out by Martin, who has over 60 years of experience working on classic motorcycles. The work included:
- Full engine rebuild (by recognised G15 specialists)
- Complete gearbox overhaul with new seals
- Wheels and forks fully rebuilt and serviced
- Original Amal Monobloc carburettor refurbished
- Correct coil ignition system reinstated
- New wiring loom fitted to original pattern
- Original parts kept and restored wherever possible
The end result is a bike that’s mechanically solid, true to its history, and ready to be enjoyed. This bike has been a joint project between me and my dad, and it’s been a pleasure seeing it come to life through his craftsmanship. It’s a real head-turner and consistently draws attention and interest whenever it’s out on the road or at events.
