DEPOSIT TAKEN 1990 Porsche 964 Targa Carrera 2 manual. Guards Red with Black leather Sports electric seats. One of only around 100 UK delivered 2wd manual 964 Targa’s (most being automatic &/ or 4wd) in a classic colour combination (lots odd colours with light interiors). So probably few standard unmodified, or to me worse “resto-moded” left in this spec. Before you rush for your banking apps please read the following carefully as it’s a brutally honest appraisal.
The good news is that apart from a slightly bigger “fart can” tailpipe tip and head unit change it appears bone stock, D90 wheels, bulbous Pirelli assim’s, orange indicators, slightly high/ skinny 90’s stance etc etc. It also comes with all the original books, 2 stamped service books, key tags, wallet and 2 keys. There are all the Mot’s from 1995 showing continuous use and even better about 50 paper invoices showing considerable investment in keeping it good with various notable independents. Key among these is a fully itemised engine rebuild at Charles Ivey at 98k miles, including clutch etc. Also great bearing in mind it’s a Targa is that the door shut lines are great/ consistent and there’s no nasty outcomes when you jack it up or excessive scuttle shake when driven pointing to good structural integrity. There’s also an invoice for overhauling the Targa roof which fits well, goes in, out and folds easily. When I last drove it all was good and it still had lively performance and light controls, gearbox fully functional etc.
The not so good news.
As part of my personal collection it probably didn’t get used as much as I’d hoped to for several year’s ownership. I’m having a serious “simplification” of what I have as I get older and the Targa seems to have worked out that it might be leaving as when I started it last week there was a nasty whiff of fuel after about 2 minutes running. Obviously turned it off and found a little puddle of fuel dripping from the fuel pump cover at the front. Pulled off the front under tray and cover to find the supply line flexi leaking and the return line wet. So now I’m annoyed enough to advertise as an easy fix project. Though it will need trailering away I maybe able to help with this at cost. The replacement parts are about £600 from Porsche and Paragon have given an estimate of 6 hours labour to change them so not in the scheme of things an expensive fix but I’ve lost the inclination so it’s for sale as is at a very sensible price for someone else to tlc some value back into it.
Now also worth noting is that there are the usual suspects body wise, bubbling bottom of front screen, tiny bit on n/ s sill (might be a chip) tiny bit o/ s under rear screen lower rubber, bit on o/ s front arch to bumper area. I’ve pictured everything I can see and it’s all good underneath etc. sill trim clip broken on either side and although I’m sure it looks lovely in the pictures it has had at least the front painted externally to a standard when these cars were £15k! On a positive note it’s all relatively a uniform colour, from 10 feet very presentable and not hiding anything.
So if you’ve not given up by now then please come and make your mind up for yourself in a well lit dry environment. Could be last chance to buy a straightforward, honest 964 manual with a great history and an invoiced engine rebuild for sub £50k?? If it doesn’t sell then it’ll go off to Paragon for repair and I’ll have some localised painting done and a full service then it’ll be back on here with a 6 or maybe even a 7 starting price. Thanks for getting this far in the description!
