Description
1976 MGB GT – Chrome Bumper Conversion (Overdrive)
Refreshed Engine & Respray – The Perfect "Rolling Restoration"
Overview:
Offered for sale is my 1976 MGB GT, a car that has undergone a significant mechanical and cosmetic overhaul over the last 9 months. This is a "best of both worlds" registered in 1976 to benefit from the improved factory cooling and heating systems, but back-dated with a rear Chrome Bumper conversion for that iconic 1960s look.
Mechanical Refresh:
The heart of this B-Series engine has been rebuilt to ensure reliability for daily use. Work includes:
Engine: Rebuild with new Piston Rings and Main Bearings. Head gasket replaced.
Drivetrain: Smooth 4-speed gearbox with working Overdrive. Rear differential serviced.
Suspension & Handling: Extensive front-end refresh including new Armstrong shock (o/ s), sway bar links, and bushings. Rear suspension upgraded with new telescopic shocks and bushes.
Electrical: Fitted with a kill switch for security and modern LED headlights for improved night visibility. Electric Radiator fan for better cooling.
Aesthetic & Interior:
Body: Full exterior respray in classic Blaze Red.
Trim: Fitted with a custom-made front grille and sits on distinctive 15" TR6 Alloys (including spare), giving it a more purposeful stance than standard Rostyles.
Interior: Complete refit including new carpets and seats.
Transparency & Condition:
This is an honest "driver-quality" classic. While the car presents beautifully, please note:
There is a minor weep from the rear main seal (a common MGB trait).
The rear demister and windscreen washer pump currently require attention.
Small body imperfections remain, consistent with a car built to be driven and enjoyed.
The car came with no prior history, however all works & parts under my ownership have been documented.
Documentation:
The entire restoration journey is documented on YouTube (@ReddyResto), providing the next owner with full transparency of the care and parts that went into this build.
Included in Sale:
A box of salvaged spare parts, including original grille, silver trim and headlights.
Optional bucket seats and a "Duck Tail" spoiler are available by separate negotiation.
Price: £5, 900 open to offers
Located in Rugby, UK. Open to swaps for interesting classics. I bought this car to follow my passion of saving beautiful classics from going to the grave. This car stole my heart with its resilience and raw driving experience. It turns heads where ever it goes and I guarantee it will put a smile on your face from the first drive.
What makes it unique is the color and styling, the aftermarket front bumper, TR6 alloys and removal of side chrome trim, gives the car a sportier yet elegant look. While the interior is comfortable, clean and allows you to hear this car in its mechanical symphony as you cruise around.
What I love most about the MG, if you haven't gauged already... the rawness of it, no power steering, solid gears, mechanical noise from the drivetrain. I don't even know the last time I turned the radio on! oh and not to mention the sad face on the odd annoying driver that underestimates what this 50 year old girl can do!
Though my time with this MG has come to an end, as I look for the next project. I know she will serve you well, as she has me.
