Description
Capots Vintage, specialist in sports and classic cars in Lyon, offers for sale a 1960 Jaguar XK150 SE MC Drop-Head Coupé (DHC).
We are pleased to offer this Jaguar XK150 3. 8 Cabriolet (DHC), factory delivered in March 1960, the ultimate evolution of the famous XK lineage.
This particularly attractive example features highly sought-after specifications. It is among the rare XK150s fitted with the original 3. 8‑litre engine and, on our model, retains its matching-numbers mechanicals, with the original engine block and cylinder head, as well as the original factory-fitted overdrive.
The car is also Matching Colors, dressed in its superb British Racing Green finish paired with Suede Green upholstery, a particularly elegant combination that matches its build sheet.
The car had been kept in dry storage for almost 30 years before being acquired by its last owner, who undertook a full restoration between 2019 and 2021 with marque specialists in the United Kingdom.
The bodywork was fully stripped, restored and repainted in its original British Racing Green. The bumpers and various chrome components were repaired or replaced as required.
The interior also underwent a complete restoration, using materials matching Jaguar's original specifications and carried out by a well-known British specialist. The work included a full refurbishment of the seats, a reconditioned dashboard and renewed interior trim in Suede Green. The hood has also been completely rebuilt in mohair.
The mechanicals were fully dismantled and rebuilt: the engine block cleaned and re-bored, new pistons, valves and bearings. The gearbox and overdrive were fully overhauled, as was the rear axle. The cooling system was renewed, including the addition of an extra electric fan.
The chassis and subframes were cleaned, prepared and protected with a treatment. The running gear was restored with the stripping and refurbishment of all suspension components, replacement of silent blocks with Polybush, as well as ball joints, tie rods and hubs. The braking system was fully overhauled with new discs and four-piston Cooper-Craft calipers at the front.
The electrical system was also redone with a new loom in the original configuration, complemented by a Dynator alternator conversion and the installation of electronic ignition (123), improving reliability and usability of the car.
The car sits on superb 72-spoke chromed wire wheels.
The car has covered around 4, 000 km since the restoration and runs with near-perfection.
