Description
The 130 was Fiat's attempt to compete with the likes of Mercedes and BMW. The saloon appeared first in 1969 but it's interior was deemed too 'plasticy' and the sonorus 2800cc engine, underpowered. It was replaced with a higher compression 3200cc power plant in 1971 at the same time as the coupe was released, this was designed by Poalo Martin at Pininfarina who also did the interior which was far more satisfactory and carried over to the saloon. Contemporary road tests of the time were very impressed with the cars handling, Motor saying 'Seldom have we encountered such excellent handling in a car of this size. Its superbly balanced feel inspires tremendous confidence, allowing high averages to be achieved without conscious driver effort' The car had fully independent suspension, disc brakes all round, could be ordered with a Borg Warner auto gearbox or a ZF S5 18 5 speed which was shared along with the diff and rear suspension with the 2400 Fiat Dino Coupes and Spiders although limited slip was optional.
This Car, Silver with blue velour, 5 speed ZF gearbox, optional A/ C and limited slip diff.
