Production began in 1996, with early cars featuring a Rover K-series 1. 8-litre engine producing around 118 bhp. That may not sound like much, but with a kerb weight of just ~725 kg, it’s enough to propel the Elise from 0–60 mph in approximately 5. 8 seconds — and it’s exceptionally nimble too.
