We are pleased to present this painstakingly restored 1968 Citroën Ami 6 for sale on behalf of a client.
It has exceptional provenance with just one previous owner. Purchased new by a vigneron in the sunny Bordeaux area of the south of France, it was left in an enclosed barn from 1978 until 2022, when the current owner acquired the car and lovingly nut-and-bolt restored it with no expense spared.
After several unsuccessful attempts to find a local French mechanic with the requisite skillset to satisfactorily bring the Ami back to life, the decision was taken to transport the car to renowned Citroën specialist Chevronics, located in Hitchin, the UK.
The project aimed to restore the car for regular use, retaining the original character while overhauling it to make it more reliable and usable. The original shell was in very good condition, negating the requirement for major structural works.
The gearbox and engine were rebuilt entirely with electronic ignition incorporated. The last two pictures show the car before the restoration process, and during.
The entire body shell was repainted in the original colour. The exterior of the GRP roof, still in good condition, was left untouched but a new headliner was fashioned and fitted. The seats were re-upholstered and retracting safety belts fitted, as well as retrimmed carpets and other details.
The car was then shipped back to Bordeaux and has been used regularly since, with impeccable reliability, and undergoing frequent servicing. It has been kept in a garage.
This beloved Ami is registered as a vehicle of historic importance with FFVE, having achieved documented ‘Vehicle of Collection’ status. It is exempt from low-emissions zones, and qualifies for classic car insurance.
It comes with the original papers, and a chassis number can be provided upon request.
