Description
Some might recognise this car. Some might not. It's done some things in the past - Google will help you, and save me writing it all out. We share some great memories together. Search Goldmember Escort on Youtube to see it in action
In October 2016 it came back from RetroStock at Mondello Park and went into storage and then life happened. It came out of storage early 2025, it got a new cam belt, a replacement fuel pump (modern equivalent to the Bosch 044) and an oil and filter change with a view to sell it, but I just couldn't bring myself to actually go ahead and do it.
It started, it ran, it drove, but I just couldn't bring myself to write the ad.
But, 9 months later, I have finally found the enthusiasm (wrong word) to do it. The first time didn't go well, not sure people bothered to read the advert. Please do so before getting in touch. I'll list what I can remember of the spec, there is likely more.
Engine:
Cosworth YB Turbo chassis mounted, standard YB crank, rods, pistons, modified big-wing 2wd Sierra sump, T38 turbo, 2wd head, vernier cam pulleys, Asnu 1000cc injectors, OMEX management, Turbosport crank pulley, 3 Bar map sensor, Toothed aux belt conversion, Airtec Rad/ Intercooler, Samco silicone hoses, Pro-alloy Breather and header tank, lightweight flywheel, optional side exit exhaust, braided fuel lines, Bosch 044 fuel pump (modern equivalent) & Sytec pressure regulator, circa 340bhp with a "naturally aspirated" style power curve.
Transmission:
Elite IL300 Six-speed sequential gearbox, triple plate 7 1/ 4" clutch, Custom two-piece prop shaft (recommended for use with this gearbox), English axle with 3J Driveline NXG LSD and two-piece tapered halfshafts
Suspension:
GAZ 2. 5" coilover front struts, eccentric top mounts, custom drift steering arms, adjustable TCAS, modified Twin-Cam anti-roll bar, anti-dive, quick rack with spacers, rose jointed track rod ends with bump-steer correction, nylon bushes, GAZ adjustable rear dampers, uprated rear leaf springs, Milton A-Frame, rear anti-roll bar, custom nylon bushes, electric power steering
Brakes:

Wheels: Various 7x13" including rare Compomotive TH's

Interior: Safety Devices 6-point cage, Corsa Power steering, Massive rev counter, flocked dash, two red Sparco bucket seats, 6-point harnesses, plumbed-in fire extinguisher, Peltor intercom system, alloy fuel cell in boot, kit car wiring loom
The shell has had very little structural welding in its life - it's on its original cills, strut tops, chassis legs etc. Obviously it has seen a bit of treatment as a track/ drift car, but is still very solid. The arches have been stretched to accommodate the front caster, camber and lock mods and the same at the back to take the various different wheels we ran whilst doing skids. Whilst in storage it has developed a small hole behind the bonnet hinge area on the nearside. Over the years it has had various things done to it, so there once was an oil cooler mounted in the nearside front inner wing (might be offside, I'm not with it right now, so can't be sure), so there is a cutout for that. But it's all part of the car's rich tapestry.
If you've got this far, well done you! Here's the rub: I'm not interested in lowball offers. It might not be a two-door. It might not be a beauty queen. But it does what it says on the tin. It's had a new cam belt and fresh engine oil so you could jump in it and go do some massive skids (it does those well) and or track days (also does those well), then break it next winter and get most of your money back. Being 50 years old this month (that's crazy in itself) you could even pop down the post office tomorrow and register it MOT and Tax exempt and put it on the road.
The price is as advertised - it's a fair price, you couldn't build the car for that money. It's a huge amount of fun, whether you drift it, or bolt a set of grippy tyres on it and do track days in it. It can do both very well. If it doesn't sell this time, I will either be mothballing it again, or taking it apart.
Give me a call, let's have a conversation. There is a twin wheel Brian James trailer available too, for an extra £1000, if you want it.
