Description
This is an opportunity to buy a 44-year-old Classic Honda, without worrying about ending up spending hours on end and a small fortune on it. The reliability of these Honda’s is unparalleled, and they are renowned to be very economical, especially when recognised as a Historic Vehicle. This 250cc Honda Twin was manufactured in 1982, hence it qualified for DVLA’s “Historic Vehicle” status and is registered as such meaning that its VED Road Tax is renewed at the NIL rate and it no longer requires an annual MOT.
During the last couple of years the bike has had everything checked and anything found to be requiring attention was attended to and either, repaired, renewed or replaced. All of the work carried out has been documented with “before and after” photos available to be viewed when inspecting the bike.
A sealed battery with an Optimate charge lead has been fitted and as additional safety/ security measures, two very discreet LED DRL’s (daytime running lights) and chrome mirrors have been added. Chrome safety bars, a rear carrier and top box have also been added and a set of brand new throw over panniers is also included.
The recorded mileage is currently 39, 122, although this cannot be guaranteed, the engine runs well and show no sign of wear and tear and everything appears to be in excellent working order.
This is a reluctant sale of a historic motorcycle on an “as is” basis, which has only brought about by a family bereavement. The asking price is well below its current Insurance agreed valuation of £2, 500. 00 and well below the amount that the bike actually cost our family in the investment made into purchasing and refurbishing this machine.
9th June 2026 UPDATE regarding the £ REDUCTION
To my absolute shock and horror, I have just found a couple of swollen paint blisters to the front of the fuel tank behind the headstock. I have no idea why or how these have occurred. The tank was painted long before I bought the bike and it looked perfect, as can be seen from the photos submitted. New tank decals were attached 5 years ago in May 2021.
A close up of the tank on the bike (without the seat) showed no such imperfections and that photo was taken on 17th May 2021. An overhead view of the fuel tank on the bike taken just two years ago (in March 2024) again shows no such imperfections, however I have highlighted where these blisters have since appeared on this photo.
There is another photo of the bike taken in the garage and this was only taken on 13th Jan 2026, this year!
Again, no signs of any imperfections of the paintwork.
I am no paint expert, but it looks as if the paint has simply lifted off the metal as a couple of swollen blisters.
The larger of the two blisters is about 100mm x 50mm and the smaller on about 60mm x 25mm.
Strangely enough, the surface of the paint is not burnt of disfigured, as one would expect if something corrosive had been spilt on the paintwork and one would assume that if it was an initial preparation problem it would have manifested itself a long time ago and not taken 5 years to appear!
Nevertheless, at the best a Company like Chips Away, may be able to remove the blisters, rub down that area to the front of the tank down and match in the paintwork, at the worst it is possible that the whole tank may have to be resprayed.
Perhaps any potential buyer may have the expertise to tackle this themselves, or they may own or have contact with a good paint shop. Please take a good look at the rest of the bike, I’ve spent a small fortune on it and many hours work but cannot take this job on myself now, so my only option is to further reduce the price to compensate for any additional costs and thus take a huge and unexpected loss on our investment into this motorcycle.
Valued and insured for £2, 500 I was initially looking for a figure towards this, then decided to reduce the sale price to £1895. 00 however having identified this totally unexpected need for a touch up/ paint job I am offering to sell the bike, “as is” for £295. 00 LESS at the much reduced price of £1, 600. 00, which should more than cover the cost of making it good.
