Description
On offer is a rare 1979 Volvo 265 GLE Auto in silver blue.
The 265 GLE (Grand Luxe Executive) was a top of the range exclusive vehicle and rarity even of its time, only available by special order directly from Volvo. It’s full of premium features including leather seats, electric windows front and rear, seat belt warning, air conditioning, chrome trims, 2. 7L PRV V6 engine and is fitted with a tow bar. This is one of only 3 licensed vehicles of this model and year left in the UK.
It has an astonishingly low mileage for its age (67, 500) due to being kept garaged for many years by the previous owner. There have been three previous owners, I am the fourth.
The vehicle has some interesting historical provenance: the first keeper from new in 1979 was Sir Max Aitken, briefly 2nd Baron Beaverbrook, distinguished WW2 fighter pilot in the Battle of Britain and later conservative politician. He was also a keen yachtsman which explains the RNLI badge on the front grill.
I bought the vehicle in the summer of 2020 and since then it has been carefully stored and used for only a handful of summer outings. It has had a couple of light restoration works during this time: OEM hydraulic boot struts, new battery, tank fuel pump, fuel accumulator, 4 new tyres fitted. The car starts and runs fine, solid underneath, interior in good condition with no rips or tears on seats.
In the interest of transparency I will highlighting the few negatives points which I have also tried to include in photos where possible: paint peel on front passenger door, heavy paint flaking on both wing mirrors, a number of small rust spots on the body work, air-conditioning needs re-gassing, rear mud flaps are cracked. Also I have very recently discovered a light seep emanating from around the fuel accumulator which annoyingly is a part that I recently replaced. Although unlikely, this may be an issue with the actual accumulator itself (failed diagram) or possibly just a loose or cracked fuel line. Either way I intend to investigate the severity of this issue and update the listing as soon as I can.
The vehicle comes with V5 log book and every single paper MOT test certificate until they started going online, along with a number of spare parts. Please note, the hub caps pictured with all the parts laid out on the floor are the actual ones on the car and not spares.
At 47 years of age the car is MOT exempt, though I recently put it through an MOT which is now valid until April 2027. It is also TAX, ULEZ & CAZ exempt as well as eligible for classic car insurance policies which makes it favourably inexpensive to run and enjoy on the road.
Serious enquiries welcome.
