1959 VW Beetle based Beach Buggy
Based on a very solid and desirable 1959 floor pan, with a Mk1 GP fiberglass buggy body this is a period conversion, it has been a buggy for a very long time. Just one look at it and you can tell it is "right".
It has an AD 1600 twin port engine and is correctly registered on the V5, has a new Empi Pict 34 carb and the correct SVDA distributor. A mechanical advance 009 is also with it, but it drives much nicer with a proper vacuum advance.
Mechanically it is great, fires up instantly and despite a little bit of hesitation at lower engine speeds it is fantastic out on the road. It's never let me down or left me stranded and has bags of power.
It has a beautiful set of banded steels which really set it off, a stainless roll over hoop and some nice period bucket seats.
A lot of money has been spent on this to make sure it drives great, recent work includes -
Brake master cylinder
Rear hub seals
Anti roll bar clamps
Rear brake cylinders
Exhaust and inlet gaskets
Sump gasket
Front drop spindles
Track rod ends
It is both tax and MOT exempt, it is HPI clear and has never been in a total loss as a lot of buggy builds are. I will provide a full, clear HPI for the new owner.
Personally speaking, when I see these new build beach buggys with their modern repro parts they're just nothing like the real thing. And this is the real thing.
I believe it is very reasonably priced seeing what is on the market, and won't consider offers. I'll happily keep and enjoy it until it finds a new home.
