Description
1985 Honda XLV750R(F)
This is a lovely example of Honda's first dual-sport motorcycle with two non-parallel cylinders. It has an air/ oil cooled V-twin engine with hydraulic valve tappets and a shaft drive, making this a relatively low maintenance machine. Along with a dry sump lubrication system with oil in frame, three valves per cylinder (two inlet, one exhaust valve) and twin spark plugs per cylinder, these features helped to make this a technologically advanced motorcycle of its time.
In 1985, the revised “F” version was introduced with some improved details. This example is painted in the black/ metallic red colour combination, which is one of the nicest in my opinion. These bikes were mainly marketed in Europe and Australia, and never officially imported to the UK.
The bike you see here is in excellent condition and very original. The odometer is showing less than 21000km (approximately 13000 miles), believed to be genuine. I was told that the bike was imported from Sweden but do not have any documentation to verify this (I suspect it may have originally been a Swiss bike).
The bike is UK registered, the V5 document is present and in my name. This bike also now benefits from Historic status, so it is exempt from road tax and MOT (although the bike does have a current MOT which is valid until 20th October 2026)
I have receipts for recent service work and purchases made to bring the bike up to its current condition. Runs and rides perfectly, everything works as it should (electrics, instruments etc…)
The fuel tank is free from corrosion inside and out. The rear shock is a Hagon aftermarket unit, replacing the original which I understand can be troublesome. The bike retains its original Sankei exhausts which are in excellent condition. Also present with the bike is a near complete toolkit, original owners handbook, and two original Honda keys. The bike would benefit from a new set of tyres, although I have not changed these as the new owner may have a preference towards more off-road biased tyres.
I can provide more details or photographs of the bike on request, or it can be viewed by arrangement near Reading, Berkshire.
In summary, this is a very nice honest example of a reliable, low mileage bike in a desirable colour scheme, and a bike which is very rarely seen or available for sale in the UK. Cheap to insure and run, the bike always attracts attention at the local cafes and bike meets, and would be an ideal ride for the upcoming ABR festival at the end of June.
Genuine enquiries only please. I’m looking for an outright sale, however I might possibly consider a deal with a Honda XR400. I can also assist with delivery of the bike if necessary for the cost of fuel. I would also welcome enquiries from mainland Europe.
