Exterior / Body:
The model presented here is an MG A 1600 MK1 from January 1960, in its period ‘Orient Red’ colour. (only used in 1959)
The bodywork was restored a few years ago and has no bubbles or corrosion. The chassis received a full fresh coat of paint. It is currently in good display condition.
The bumpers and chrome overriders are properly aligned and in good condition.
The grille and badge bar chrome is in very good condition. There are two sets of hub caps, one set is chrome the other is colour coded in red.
There is also period Desmo overtaking mirror on the driver’s side with matching mirror on the passenger side.
The mouldings and decorative trims are complete and in good order.
The boot trim is in perfect condition and the boot is carpeted and has a spare wheel cover.
The black vinyl hood in good presentation order. The PVC mica is perfectly translucent, with no cracks or fissures or yellowing .
This car is equipped with a black vinyl-toned tonneau cover in excellent condition.
The five 15” steel wheels (including spare wheel) and tyres are in excellent condition.
Equipped with original spare steel wheel, as well as a jack.
Exterior equipment and options on this car are the original refurbished side screens in acrylic, red vinyl side screen stowage bag , the tonneau cover in black vinyl, and the chrome boot rack.
Interior:
The interior retains its period layout and presents very well.
Black leather upholstery with red piping was restored a few years ago. It is in excellent condition, with no wear or sagging, as are the matching black vinyl door panels and central armrest.
The dashboard in black colour is in excellent condition.
The JAEGER instrument cluster is complete and fully functional including the backlighting of the gauges.
The original MG four-spoke steering wheel is not present but there is a fully restored factory leather steering wheel included, there is currently a flat bottomed modern steering wheel fitted as the current owner is well over six feet tall.
The original MG gear knob is also in good condition.
The black carpets are in excellent condition.
Chassis and Bodywork:
Chassis is straight with no corrosion was painted a couple of years ago. The bodywork is in excellent condition and was completely refurbished / renewed and professionally painted a few years ago. New inner and outer sills were also fitted
Underside:
A complete new upgraded thicker marine plywood floor has been fitted with correct fittings and sealing. All mechanics, steering, suspension and shock absorbers including all bushes have been refurbished or renewed, and there are no disconcerting rattles when driving. The exhaust has also been replaced and has a stainless rear exhaust box and new front pipes and fittings.
Brakes and brake lines:
Braking is balanced and aligned, with performance consistent with era standards.
Front brake discs and pads have been renewed as have the rear brakes / shoes and brake cylinders and have no leaks. All brake lines and fittings have been renewed and the master and slave cylinders refurbished.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanicals are running perfectly.
The engine is Original and was rebuilt two years ago including new main bearings, crank shaft bearings, big end bearings, new oil pump together with a skimmed cylinder head with new valves and guides together with conversion to unleaded petrol. The engine is also repainted in the correct colour. The oil filter has been replaced with a spin off oil filter however the original housing is available. Polished alloy Rocker cover
Oil pressure is good.
The gearbox is also Original and has been completely overhauled and filled with the correct fresh oil. All four gears engage and disengage without issue, particularly the synchromesh. Clutch and release bearing are also new and operate as they should.
There is also a new Radiator fitted and the coolant is FourLIfe and requires no antifreeze or water.
There is a new, correct Smiths heater matrix which operates as it should.
Electrical:
The wiring loom is new and all electrics and lights work as they should, including gauges, panel lights, exterior lights and indicators. There is a There is a new 12V dynamo, voltage regulator and fuse box and cover. There is also a supplementary electric fan fitted
