Description

2011 BMW 640d Auto Coupe – Rare IAS Rear Wheel Steering – Head-Up Display – Enthusiast Owned – 78, 000 Miles

Finished in Space Grey Metallic with beautiful cream leather interior, this is a genuinely exceptional example of BMW’s superb 640d Coupe and one which has clearly been cherished throughout its life.

Sadly, due to a new company car arriving, the car now has to go.

This has been my personal enthusiast-owned car and one I spent a long time finding, as many early 640d models now are either tired, neglected, poorly specified or simply don’t drive correctly anymore. This one stood out immediately because of its condition, mileage, history and extremely rare factory specification.

The car has covered just 78, 000 miles with full service history and drives exactly as it should. The 3. 0 twin-turbo straight-six diesel engine delivers huge effortless torque, superb refinement and remarkable economy for a car of this size and performance.

I recently completed a return trip to Spain in the car — over 1, 600 miles — and it never missed a beat, comfortably returning 54–55 MPG cruising through France and Spain.

Performance is seriously impressive. The car is exceptionally quick in real-world driving whilst remaining smooth, refined and incredibly comfortable. It is a true long-distance GT car in every sense.

A major part of what makes this example special is the specification.

Factory options include:
• Head-Up Display (HUD)
• IAS / Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering)
• Professional Navigation
• Heated cream leather seats
• Electric memory seats
• Front and rear parking sensors
• Cruise control
• Bluetooth
• Multi-function steering wheel

The Head-Up Display alone cost approximately £1, 000 when new, while the IAS Integral Active Steering option was close to £2, 000. Very few early cars were specified with both options together, making this quite a rare and desirable specification.

The IAS rear-wheel steering genuinely transforms the way the car drives, giving it remarkable agility at lower speeds whilst remaining extremely stable and planted at motorway speeds.

The paintwork presents beautifully and the cream leather interior is a lovely place to sit, lifting the whole feel of the cabin compared to the more common darker interiors. The car has recently been machine polished and ceramic coated.

Mechanically the car is excellent:
• Full service history
• Smooth automatic gearbox
• No warning lights
• Pulls incredibly strongly
• Quiet and refined drive
• Clearly maintained properly throughout its life

The alloy wheels have a few small age-related marks and could benefit from a light refurbishment if desired, however I have intentionally left them untouched and reflected this honestly in the asking price.

Despite the luxury, performance and specification, annual road tax is only £218 per year, making it a remarkably affordable car to own and run for something of this calibre.

Comes complete with:
• 2 keys
• MOT
• Original book packs/ manuals
• Full service history

This is not your average used 640d. It is a very genuine, properly cared-for enthusiast-owned example which still turns heads and attracts compliments regularly. What I love most about this car is how effortlessly it does everything. It’s incredibly refined and comfortable on long journeys, yet has huge torque and performance when you want it. The rare IAS rear-wheel steering and Head-Up Display make it feel genuinely special to drive, and the cream leather interior gives it a very classy feel. I recently drove it to Spain and back without a single issue whilst averaging over 50 MPG, which really sums the car up perfectly — fast, comfortable, reliable and surprisingly economical and it looks fantastic
