I’d like to offer my Citroen AX 4X4 for sale. It’s an honest, unrestored car and is highly original. It’s had new front brakes and brake lines all around, new headlight tabs (which are prone to breaking) and drives beautifully. It has a slight leak on the front left driveshaft at the gearbox, which is just a new seal away from being fixed (could still be fixed during my ownership depending on how soon I can get it done). The headlights could also do with some adjusting, which I will look into. As far as I can see, it’s not had any welding and repainting, so it’s a quite unmolested car. Being an unrestored red car from the nineties, the paint is obviously not perfect, but still very tidy and presentable. Overall a very tidy car with some light marks from being used over the years, of course. Comes with a second set of original steel wheels.
Mileage indicated in the advert is 105000, mileometer reads 103954 at the time of writing but will evolve as the car will still be used prior to the sale. It’s a rare and underappreciated car, being an AX 4X4 Piste Rouge. The AX 4X4 has been a limited production car in it’s base form, with around 2500 units having ever been produced. Of that number, only 400 came from the factory as Piste Rouge version. That trim level included the ‘Rouge Furio’ paint, manual sunroof and the front bumper and fog lights from an AX sport. It has a 1. 4 litre single carb petrol engine with 75 horsepower and a four wheel drive system developed by Dangel. Front wheel drive as standard, with a rear axle which can be engaged electronically via a switch on the centre console. How many AX 4X4’s are still on the road today, let alone Piste Rouge versions, is anyone’s guess, but I can assure you it won’t be many. Sure to raise an eyebrow or two on any meet you arrive at, and quite fun to drive despite the extra weight of the all wheel drive system. Has accompanied me on a roadtrip from Belgium to France and back without any issues, and I trust it’ll be a faithful companion for many more years if looked after properly.
