This car is special. The same owner for the last 40 years, it is probably one of the best known, and well travelled mid year coupes around.
Body on restored by Corvette Kingdom in the mid 1980’s, and in constant use since then, with regular maintenance and upgrades, culminating in a body off chassis refurbishment by Corvette Kingdom in the mid 2000's. This included conversion to a 3 speed TH350 automatic transmission with a removable crossmember, smart struts, along with chassis refurbishment, new fuel and brake lines, suspension bushings, and much much more.
Daytona Blue with a dark blue leather interior, equipped with power steering and power brakes, also converted to disc brakes at the front with cross drilled discs, correct Corvette 4 pot calipers and an adjustable proportioning valve. This car drives as you would expect, and has been regularly used in events throughout the UK, along with annual trips to Le Mans and Le Mans classic, the last trip being in 2025.
The previous owner absolutely doted on this car, he was also an incredible tinkerer and the Corvette is no exception. Always looking for ways to improve the reliability and enjoyment of owning what is really a pretty impractical car on a regular basis, this 64 coupe is equipped with an auxiliary digital speedometer, a reversing camera, engine bay blowers for cooling, and my personal favourite, an armrest mounted single shot wiper switch! In a stroke of genius he also modified the rear compartment door so it is split in two for easy access, how GM never came up with this is beyond me. it is brilliant!!
I think you will be hard pressed to find a more well sorted, useable, and value for money mid year coupe anywhere. Mechanically the car is excellent, maintained regardless of cost, and with some nice sympathetic upgrades, chrome is very good, nice American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, including the spare, well shod with new in 2025 Blockley tyres. Spax shock absorbers all round, a composite rear mono spring, Smart Struts, Magnaflow dual exhaust system, you name it.
The interior is excellent, the leather seats have a nice patina to them, carpets, door panels, dash, headliner, all superb, in fact the headliner was replaced a couple of years back, beautiful original wood effect steering wheel, gauges are excellent and a modern retrofit radio and speaker system has been installed.
Matching numbers 327 fitted with a correct aluminium intake manifold, Barry Grant Mighty Demon carburettor, correct aluminium valve covers, ignition shielding, De Witts aluminium radiator with engine driven fan and auxiliary electric cooling fan, power disc brakes (drums on rear), power steering, originally an AC equipped car but since removed. The engine starts and runs beautifully and the car is a joy to drive.
But - The paint is tired. This was painted in the mid 80's and has had heavy use since then, it is also the one area of the car that has had little to no remedial work or repair in that time. I must admit it doesn't bother me, it is quite nice having something where you're not terrified of getting a new stone chip or scratch, and bear in mind this Corvette has covered in excess of 130, 000 miles in the last 40 years and I just see it as history and battle scars, like not washing the winning Le Mans car...
If you want a car with mirror like mile deep syrupy paint, then this is not for you, or maybe it is but be prepared to paint it, a part of me thinks that might be a bit of a shame but I guess it will have to be done eventually. If you want a car that is super reliable, has a history like virtually no other, and is a go anywhere any time Corvette, and you can live with some cracks and chips and crazing, then this might just be the mid year coupe you are looking for.
What is also pretty neat is that unlike most other cars that need paint, this doesn't need anything else, it doesn't need chrome, emblems, glass, weatherstrips, wheels, tyres, mechanicals, interior trim, anything. Just paint! So you could get the car painted, and the reality is you still have a wicked mid year coupe for sensible money!!
I can take another Corvette in part exchange up to 1981, I can arrange transport to any UK destination and can show you the car on a ramp, no tourists though, serious buyers only, and I am not open to offers...
Call the details below for more info. Most cars have a small history file, sometimes you are lucky and get a decent size folder to look through. This car has a 50cm square box FULL of history, there is even a folder of typed pages going back to 1987 listing every single job that has been done to the car, and I don't mean just major work, I mean every single job, even down to changing bulbs or wiper blades, also includes mileage records, and comments on the journey! I have never seen anything like it, it is unbelievable. There is a bunch of plaques for various events the car has been on, numerous photos of the car, magazine and book features, even photos of legendary racing driver John Fitch behind the wheel.
Until you see it in person you just wouldn't believe it. What an opportunity!
