Carefully modified, attractive and very useable 1956 MG ZA Magnette for sale.
Since we took ownership of the car approximately 6 years ago, it has undergone a substantial amount of work with the aim of making it more useable and better to drive. Prior to this the car only had, as far as we know, two previous owners.
It has been fitted with a 5 bearing 1800 MGB engine with HS4 carburettors, tubular manifold and stainless-steel exhaust. The sump has been modified and a 5 Speed Type 9, Ford gearbox fitted in place of the standard box, Front disc brakes, a new fuel pump, new rear wheel cylinders have also been added.
To pass a recent MOT a suspension bush kit, pivot bolts and suspension link and new fan belt were fitted. The car also benefits from front and rear seat belts.
The interior is in reasonable condition. But unfortunately there is a large rip to the leather on the driver’s seat and some of the window mechanism need some adjustment to function properly. The dials work but the speedo is not accurate due to the fitment of the MGB engine. The rest of interior is presentable. The wooden dash was polished a few years ago and still looks good although some refurbishment is still required inside to make it perfect.
The outside of the car is in nice condition. The wheels and bumpers have recently been repainted and most of the body work is in good condition. This is not a show car and there are some small dents and areas that require attention but nothing you would say was very substantial. Some of chrome trim needs to be re-stuck and boot does not lock but this is probably an easy fix for a person with the right tools and some experience.
What this car really has going for it is the way it drives. It is much more capable than a standard Magnette. It has far better performance than a standard car and the extra gear makes it much smoother at higher speed although it would benefit from a re-gear. The car can however, comfortably keep up with modern day traffic and still goes well with several people onboard.
Overall this is a nice Magnette that goes and stops well. But needs some work to bring it up to a high standard. This is reflected in the price. The car has some documented history and evidence of all work mentioned above can be provided on request.
