Description

1973 RENAULT 4 "MONACO HEUER" Rally 1. 3L
This is a well-kept, non-garage queen 1973 R4 built as a small homage to the Rally cars that ran Monaco in the 70s. Inspired by HEUER, with the obligatory period-correct setup up front and deliberate design details throughout — this is not a standard R4. From the Alpine wheels to the period plates, this is either a brilliant little rally-bred pocket rocket or a project that needs only minor work to be 100%.

Fresh paint — 27 years ago :):):). Lacquer is holding up relatively well, minimal rust for 50-year-old French madness, and treated with lanolin throughout. Stripped back as much as possible, roof and interior alike.

It left the factory in 1973 with a 1. 0l engine and 34bhp. That's no longer the case. This R4 has been upgraded with a Cleon 1289cc unit sourced from a Renault 5 — a lighter, more robust and higher-revving engine that Renault used throughout the 70s and 80s, well known for its reliability and excellent parts availability. Complete with matching gearbox and front end. Fitted with a tiny ;) twin Weber carburettor, estimated output is 70–75bhp, and yes — there's a 5th gear. It goes. New exhaust makes sure everyone knows and hears about it :)

Inside: umbrella gearshift as nature intended, a gorgeous MOMO Indy steering wheel, and Bluetooth via Marshall. Seats are from the R5 too — an upgrade you didn't know you needed. Behind the seats sits a Bell Bullitt helmet — because of course it does.

Winter tyres and a roof rack included, should you absolutely insist on taking it to the slopes or up a snow-covered mountain road. It'll handle it. It'll probably love it.

Rattles and runs exactly as it should — as close as you'll get to a slightly rowdy French watch, with the gearbox mounted ahead of the engine, operated via an absurdly long rod running the length of the car.

You'll need to use the choke and nurse it a little when cold — as it should be. And if you need to open the bonnet, this joins a 1970s Jaguar and any given Ferrari in the forward-opening club.

Sold as seen, no warranties, no guarantees. Ideally to someone who knows what they're getting into with a 50+ year old car. That goes without saying — but there it is.

A few spare parts included. Can be shipped anywhere in the world with payment upfront (buyer to organize & pay for transport) or collected in Oslo, Norway. Craziest car in the collection of both sports cars and old SUVs. Probably the most fun and unpredictable thing to drive. Demands attention and gets more smiles and thumbs up than any new Ferrari or Porsche. Rattles, protests, and goes like the clappers. Nothing is in line, the steering is weird, the gearshifts happen, if you manage to understand it, and if it doesn´t vibrate in different places every time you accelerate or brake, you probably did not turn it on. Love it. But I am bang out of space.
