Selling my 2001 Toyota MR2 Roadster (Mk3) strictly as Spares or Repair. Registration is Y311 EEX. The car has suffered an engine failure (the classic 1ZZ bottom-end failure common to these pre-facelift models) and will need to be trailered or recovered away. It does not drive.
This car has been thoroughly loved in our family for the last 7 years. This exact vehicle was featured and fully reviewed by prominent UK car reviewer JayEmm on Cars.
Please note: The headlights have been fully restored using a professional restoration kit and have come out crystal clear. Please ignore any slight haziness visible in the older YouTube video footage or older photographs, as they look excellent now.
I am heading traveling later this year and do not have the time, space, or budget to undertake an engine swap, so it needs to go to an enthusiast, track-builder, or breaker who can give it its next chapter.
The Good (Great for Breaking / Projects):
The Headlights: Fully restored back in January using a dedicated headlight restoration kit. They have come out brilliantly and are completely clear, with none of the typical faded or yellowed oxidation common to these models.
The Roof: It received a brand-new soft-top mohair roof during our ownership (as noted in the JayEmm review). It is in excellent condition, completely weather-tight, and has none of the usual rips or leaks.
The Battery: Brand-new battery recently fitted.
Bodywork and Panels: Overall straight and in decent condition for its age. Wings, doors, bonnet, and engine lid are all solid.
Interior: Clean and complete original, unmodified interior. Original seats, steering wheel, and dash components are all present.
History: Solid 7-year family ownership history with V5C logbook present in my name.
The Key / Ignition Situation (Fully Disclosed):
Typical for Toyotas of age, the original keys snapped. The blade fragment is inside the ignition barrel, which actually means you can still turn the ignition switch perfectly fine using the fob head. The car locks and unlocks securely via the remote buttons on the key fob, so the vehicle remains fully locked, alarmed, and secure while parked.
Cosmetics / Points to Note:
Passenger Door Mirror and Panel: The original passenger door mirror was knocked off and replaced. The replacement part sourced was wrapped, so it currently has a wrapped finish. Crucially, the mirror underneath the wrap is the original matching factory red colour, so the wrap can simply be peeled off by the new owner. There is also some residual glue on the passenger door from the mirror replacement/ repair process. I still have the original damaged wing mirror unit which will be included in the sale.
The Engine: Broken / non-runner bottom end. Requires a replacement engine or is a perfect candidate for a 2ZZ or Honda K-Series swap.

V5C Logbook: Present and in my name.
Location: Plymouth area.
Collection: Strictly collection only via trailer, flatbed, or A-frame.
Sold as seen with no warranty implied given the mechanical failure. Perfect track car project, engine swap candidate, or breaking opportunity for valuable Mk3 parts.
