Description
What's this worth these days? I really can't price it. I'm going to say £18k
It's with some mixed feelings that I'm coming to sell my karmann ghia. The reason? It's just sitting there and I don't use it. It's been a labour of love and I spend many nights crying, confused, wits end but managed to find all the parts needed to bring back to life.
So where do I start, I bought this back in 2010 as a rolling shell. The body was off and stripped back to metal and lead soldered
Like with many of these cars, came in from California and spent it life there and phoenix.
The chassis was fully blasted and new floors put in through out.
It's a 1966 model which I understand was a one year only model. Note the taillights. When I got the car, previous owner had already modded to fit the smaller low light back lights. Too be honest, think he made the right choice.
With this and other tasteful mods, the car is not for those seeking a perfectly unmodified example. The car has narrowed front beam, fully rebuilt 1600cc engine, Porsche alloys, custom tan leather interior, with custom fully scothgarded cream and brown quality quilted carpet.
The car comes with original and fibreglass blade bumpers but both could do with rechrome. If I was keeping I'd invest in new stainless steel ones from Vietnam.
Car was fully rewired with a custom loom, new battery etc.
Just put a fully rebuild 1. 6 single carb engine, photos available, new battery, brand new heavy duty Porsche stater motor.
The car has all round disc brakes (Porsche I believe)
I got it painted in Bianco white and it's a good paint job.
The chassis, floors and bodywork are 100% rust free with no hidden or nasty filler or bodge. They are really in A1 condition (see photos) bring a magnet. Professionally lead loaded where needed.
Some bad bits
There's a chip of paint on the rear quarter and a slight dent on front wing. Both easy fixes
I have used simple chrome stripes for the body lines and window seals but have the original chrome sets in excellent condition for you to fit if required.
It's a weird feeling selling this car, it was my dream car that I always wanted when I was driving a beetle in the 90s, I've now built it, drove it, lived it and restored it. Not sure how I'm going y I feel when she goes.
