Description
Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is one of those cars that proves even automotive pragmatism can have an elegant face. This model was created by combining three entirely different approaches: German technical simplicity (Volkswagen), Italian design sensibility (Ghia), and precise body craftsmanship from Osnabrück (Karmann). The result is a car that looks like a sports coupe, but beneath its elegant bodywork shares its technical foundation with the Beetle – and therefore also its mechanical reliability. The Karmann Ghia was never particularly fast, but it was a “stylish slow mover”, winning hearts rather than conquering racetracks. Its subtle lines, chrome details, and hand-built body make it a collector’s gem that appeals more through emotion than performance. This specific 1973 example is a convertible with a 1. 6-litre engine, which is by no means stock – during a complete restoration carried out approximately three years ago, it received a new engine block, a strengthened crankshaft, new valves, special cylinder heads, and an oil cooler. It is fitted with twin Weber dual carburettors, which give the engine a more lively character and improved throttle response. At the same time, a stainless-steel sports exhaust was installed. The odometer was reset after the restoration and currently shows 6, 950 km. The body underwent a complete restoration including a new paint finish, and the car also received a new fabric convertible top. The front axle has been reinforced, improving stability, and the headlights now switch on automatically – a practical detail that subtly modernises everyday use. And as a finishing touch? This particular car was previously owned by the director of an authorised Volkswagen dealership in Dresden, which speaks to the level of care it has always received. We can arrange the import of your dream car from anywhere (classics or modern vehicles), including registration, insurance, and all related services.
