First registered on 1 August 1993, this is one of the final examples of the original Saab 900 Classic Turbo Convertible before production ended. Widely regarded as one of the last and best versions of the original "proper" Saab 900, this genuine Full Pressure Turbo (FPT) model with manual gearbox represents one of the most desirable variants of Saab's iconic classic.
I have owned the car since May 2015 and am the eighth owner. Throughout my ownership it has been stored indoors at Wessex Car Storage and maintained as a cherished classic rather than used as everyday transport.
The car has covered 148, 000 miles and, mechanically, is excellent and wants for nothing. It starts readily, drives beautifully and performs exactly as a Classic 900 Turbo should. During my ownership the gearbox was completely rebuilt by TR Autos and has covered only a couple of thousand miles since, giving great peace of mind for the next owner. The car handles remarkably well and remains a genuine pleasure to drive.
Structurally the car is sound and solid. Cosmetically it would benefit from some attention in places, but this is largely a matter of time and detailing rather than significant expenditure. It remains a very presentable and usable classic that could either be enjoyed as it is or gradually improved by an enthusiastic owner.
The car is fitted with the desirable Super Aero alloy wheels as used on the Saab 9000 Aero, which suit the car particularly well, and features a grey leather interior.
The hood is in good condition and operates correctly. As with many classic convertibles of this age, it is best stored under cover, as prolonged outdoor storage in heavy rain can result in some water ingress.
The history file contains service records up to 140, 000 miles, which is the final service stamp recorded in the service book. The car also benefits from a recent MOT.
This is an honest, well-sorted example of a late Classic 900 Turbo that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in unmodified, usable condition. Values of good Classic 900 Turbos have strengthened in recent years, making these cars increasingly attractive to enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Realistically priced for its condition, this represents an excellent opportunity to acquire one of Saab's most iconic models. The car is mechanically excellent, ready to be enjoyed immediately, and offers the next owner the chance to focus on cosmetic improvement if they wish.
This car was my poster car as a teenager. I've always loved the design, the engineering, the distinctive Swedish approach and the individuality of the Classic 900. Despite owning many other cars over the years, very few have captured my imagination in quite the same way.
The decision to sell has not been an easy one and is purely a commercial one. As the owner of Wessex Car Storage, I currently need to free up storage space and am therefore offering both of my Saab 900 Convertibles for sale. Otherwise, I would be perfectly happy to continue owning and enjoying this car.
