Description

After being in the family since 1979 we sadly have to let Fred go. Only 2 previous owners before passing it between our family members.

I'm selling it as a "running project car". The body was last renovated in 1990/ 91 so it has done pretty well to survive this long but alas rust and increasingly infrequent use has caught up with it.

The reconditioned 1098cc engine was fitted in 2010/ 11 by Dominic Mooney at Midland Classic Restorations and has covered ~10k miles since then (I will double check the paper work and update the advert).

Having been in the family for so long, we have a lot of history and paper work with this car.

I also have the full original red interior kit that I started to remove from the car, intending to inspect the body and put back. I also have 4 chrome hub caps, chrome front and rear bumpers, and many more bits and pieces (photograph of these will be uploaded once I dig them out of the garage).

Recent work:
New clutch less than 1k miles ago.
New roof in 2021.

Faults:
Rust, obviously.
Speedo and rev counter stopped working very recently.
Throttle pedal disconnected from mechanism, but you can still drive the car pushing on the metal connecting rod.
There is fuel 'sweating' out of the fuel pipe from the tank to the pump.
The rubber part from the fuel filler neck through the boot floor to the tank is leaking.
The car could do with a good service, except for spark plugs which are brand new.

Though the car is drivable, due to the body work, it is advisable that whoever buys this car should bring a trailer along and tow it away.

Serious buyers only, looking for £3000 or nearest offer. History:
It was the family car in the 1980's!

Body was last restored in 1990, engine in 2010 (only ~10k miles on it).

It has been looked after by Sprite and Midget specialists Midland Classic Restoration (yes, the creators of the yellow frog eyed Sprite on Top Gear back in 2005).

It sounds better than any other Sprite/ Midget I've ever heard.

It smells amazing like an old British car should.

It drives superbly, still able to hit top speed!

You can't go anywhere in it without stopping for a conversation with someone admiring it or relaying and old story about a Sprite/ Midget.

For younger buyers, this is a really simple and great car to learn with.

Parts and knowledge availability is second to none in the classic car world.
