1995 Citroen AX 954cc Debut
I brought the MOT forward from it's renewal due on 05 August 2026 to provide its new owner with the confidence of a new MOT to 12 June 2027. Three 'monitor and repair if necessary (advisories)':
* Nearside front suspension am pin or bush worn but not
resulting in any excessive movement
* Nearside rear shock absorber has a slightly worn bush
* Nearside front outer sill slightly corroded
Not bad for a 31 year old French classic. None are urgent and you can enjoy the AX whilst fixing them over time in your ownership.
Current mileage 136, 318 at the MOT on 12 June 2026. The DVLA MOT History reveals:
• 11, 290 miles over 10 years between 2016 – 2026
• 22, 230 miles over 20 years between 2006 – 2026
This was the detail in the previous owners (private seller) ad:
'In my ownership since May 2015. Has been 100% reliable and been on some long journeys as very comfortable. She has been driven carefully but will sit at 70 mph on the motorway if needed.
Everything works as it should.
No 5 door 954 cc cars were imported to the UK with a 5 speed box, but this one has the extra gear, which makes it a more pleasant drive. Although a base model it also has tinted glass and an upgraded interior of Echo specification,
At 125, 000 miles [April 2018 MOT] I installed a 3 piece clutch kit, changed the cambelt, new calipers and pads, rear shoes, handbrake cables, front shock absorber and exhaust. I have just replaced a drive shaft and hub. At the same time I removed the head, de-coked it, re-seated the valves and installed new valve stems. I cleaned the underside and sprayed liberally with waxoyl. The underside is very clean.
It is used regularly but sparingly. The bodywork is now 30 years old and has the original paint except for tailgate which i broke and had to replace [black]. the car gets a lot of attention but the body is not perfect as there are scratches and chips, especially on the roof, and some small dents in a few panels but not too noticeable. The front bumper is cracked and this has been repaired but is noticeable. The body is solid and there are no leaks. The interior is very good for the age with no tears or stains on the upholstery. The seats are like new.'
It was good description then and still applies in 2026.
Service history in my ownership since February 2025:
• Clutch release fork replaced 09 May 2025
• Full garage service @ 131, 857 miles on 30 July 2025
• New Battery 11 February 2026 & subsequent Alternator
overhaul 10 March 2026
It comes with the original service book, stamped to 82, 465 miles in 2001, and a Haynes Manual.
V5 is in my name and I'm the 9th owner. I purchased this AX through Car and Classic on 19 February 2025 as a 2nd car, to keep my leased company car (boring) within it's restricted annual mileage... plus I like having a classic analogue manual car as a toy!
Definitely not a show car, but It's a very economical 5 door daily driver... 45+mpg (remember, its got a 5 speed box), reliable and cheap to insure as a classic car.
