Description
I have for sale my MG TF 2004, Petrol, 5 speed manual 1. 8L in a lovely shade of blue. There are plenty of good aspects and a couple of main issues that bring the price down. I'll start with the issues. The reasons below show the car is not a turn-key and drive away unfortunately. The main issue is overheating. Firstly and most importantly, I have conducted a head gasket leakage test to determine if the head gasket has blown and on the initial test and on the retest to verify the results, the head gasket appears not to have blown. A good sign. I have since bled and refilled the cooling system completely but sadly no luck. What I suspect are the culprits will be either the thermostat stuck closed or defunct water pump. Both of which should be cheap fixes if this is indeed the issue. The second aspect of the car to mention is the paint job. It would ideally need a full respray as soon as possible to look presentable. There are some great looking panels on the car - rear end, front bumper, wing mirrors - however the doors, wings and bonnet all need a visit to the body shop and ideally respraying from scratch. If I were to keep the car, I would probably request a bodyshop to even out a few spots of bubbling in the metalwork then a full respray so it all matches. The last detracting point is that it seems to have a battery fault. It previously started and ran absolutely beautifully however the battery has since drained beyond saving and will definitely need a new one. Now to the good points and there are many. As I say, when I last had it running, it ran very smoothly at idle and drives extremely well. I have also fixed the notorious leaking A-pillar seal using a well known method. Of course, you can no longer buy the seal since they were out of production long ago but it now no longer leaks. Nice clean interior, cleaned using an extractor and steamer. Fresh windscreen wipers, brand new from the box. Tyre wear checked and all okay. I have continued the recent work on the car in the following section. Comes with two sets of keys and lots of paperwork and service history. The car is currently SORN and out of MOT. I have not driven the car very much since the last MOT so there is no reason why it would not pass. I've simply SORN'd it due to the issues described. As mentioned this car currently does not run and would ideally be collected from near Cardiff by a flat-bed lorry, towed or by someone who can bring a fresh battery and will drive it a short distance before the engine overheats.
