Description
A rare opportunity to acquire one of the highly distinctive Shrive Specials, hand-built by Geoffrey Shrive at the family's workshops in Harlington, Bedfordshire during the 1970s. Only 33 examples were produced, with most exported to the USA. This particular car remained in Scotland after leaving the Shrive workshops and was recently discovered in a barn near Carlisle before undergoing extensive recommissioning and cosmetic restoration. The Shrive Special was created by removing the original steel body from a donor vehicle, shortening the chassis and fitting a bespoke fibreglass sports body, resulting in an elegant pre-war style motor car with dependable post-war mechanicals. This example retains its original Mk IV running gear. Recent work includes a fully overhauled and repainted chassis (requiring no welding), complete repaint in Bentley Racing Green two-pack paint, engine removal for detailing and engine bay restoration, cylinder head inspection and refitting, restoration of the walnut dashboard, new tonneau cover, nickel-plated external handbrake, new aero flyscreens, Dunlop cross-ply tyres, rear spring leather gaiters and leather bonnet straps. The car has also been fully serviced, commissioned and tuned. On the road, the car performs exactly as intended. The six-cylinder side-valve engine pulls strongly and smoothly up to 4, 000 rpm, while the traditional four-speed floor-mounted gearbox provides a wonderfully authentic driving experience. Large finned drum brakes with gearbox-driven servo assistance offer reassuring stopping power. Combining genuine 1930s sporting style with the reliability and usability of later mechanicals, this Shrive Special attracts attention wherever it goes. Its rarity, fascinating history and striking appearance make it an ideal entrant for classic car shows, touring events and vintage motoring gatherings. A unique piece of British specialist motoring history and an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire one of Geoffrey Shrive's limited-production creations. Viewing strictly by appointment.
