Description

1992 SAAB 900i COMBI COUPÉ 16v Turbo EPRegistered with the A. S. I. historic vehicle register, this iconic Scandinavian tourer is a proper rarity. Saab 900i Combi Coupé, 5-door, EcoPower. A different, unusual, rare car. 2. 0-litre 16v LPT (low-pressure turbo) B202S engine, 145 bhp, catalysed. 5-speed manual gearbox. At the last MOT certificate: 250, 005 kmThis isn’t a restored car, but an exceptionally well-preserved example in absolutely 100% original condition (including the paint), cared for, enjoyed, maintained and repaired as needed over its 34 years. One previous owner, who used the car for leisure time and always kept it in a dry garage. Fitted with air conditioning, an electric sunroof, electric windows and electrically adjustable mirrors, plus fully working central locking. Also equipped with headlamp washers and bronze glass. The grey fabric interior is well kept, with straight panels and no serious damage considering its age and mileage. The dashboard is well maintained, with no fading and no cracks, and with no imperfections in the stitching seams. Switches, dials and console trim are in excellent condition, always considering the car’s age and mileage. The space-saver spare wheel kit and the original tool set are present under the boot floor, supplied as a pair of approved never-used snow chains. The exterior is in excellent overall condition for its age; bumpers and trim are original. The lights are in good order. Everything is of a good standard and, overall, the attractive paint—along with the glass—looks great with a deep gloss, as shown in the photos. The steel wheels are in order and run on Goodyear tyres with around 80% tread. The car presents with complete freedom from rust in the elegant Odoardo Grey Metallic colour introduced by Saab in the early 1990s, dedicated to Odoardo Pagani—an historic dealership and the brand’s importer in Italy. As Saab owners know, the 900 is prone to corrosion on the underside of the vehicle, which is hard to spot unless you’re on a lift. This car has none of these issues and (I repeat) is absolutely rust-free. The car has been fitted with a valid LPG (GPL) system until 2027, solely to allow use during traffic blockage days due to pollution regulations; it also reduces running costs significantly. Supplied with a useful historical file of documents, including a meticulous chronology of the work carried out over the years, complete with receipts and invoices. Old MOT certificates, the original V5/ logbook, including two sets of ignition keys and the original owner’s handbook. Non-smoker vehicle. For transparency, here are the negative notes: gear-lever badge logo worn where it has come loose, but not damaged or missing. Selector linkage has some play. Offside (passenger-side) track joint/ hub constant-velocity joint is noisy. Door lock cylinder for the driver’s door works but is imprecise. Rear tailgate lock cylinder to be replaced. Headlamp washer without wipers. The Saab 900, emblem of renowned Swedish build quality, is a solid, reliable, over-engineered car. The example I’m presenting here isn’t immaculate in a way that hides imperfections—it’s exactly those imperfections that tell the truth of its authenticity. I have consciously chosen not to intervene, offering it in its current condition so the future owner can decide the level of work: from simple preservation right up to a high-level full restoration, depending on their goals and budget. I inherited it from the estate of a dearly departed friend. I’m selling it because I don’t have the time to drive it as much as the car wants, and needs, to be driven. Further information and photos available to anyone with a strong interest, whether you’re looking for a truly eccentric-design car, the appeal of a turbo engine, and a timeless character.
