Description

1971 Triumph Stag Mk I – Original V8 –
50700 Miles – Factory Hardtop – Excellent Restoration Project

Open to realistic offers

An increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an early 1971 Triumph Stag Mk I, finished in its attractive original yellow, complete with its original Triumph 3. 0-litre V8 engine, automatic transmission and factory hardtop.

This is an honest, largely original car that has been in dry garage storage for the past three years. Prior to storage it was running and driving well, but it is now offered as a recommissioning project and will require transportation from its current location in Belfast.

Showing 50, 700 miles, the car retains its original V8 engine and benefits from a number of important mechanical improvements carried out shortly before being laid up.

Work completed before storage

* New stainless steel exhaust system
* Complete brake system overhaul with new metal brake pipes and flexible hoses
* Brake fluid flushed and system bled
* Fuel tank drained and cleaned
* New fuel pump and fuel hoses
* Carburettors removed, cleaned and fitted with new needle jets
* Track rod ends replaced
* Radiator removed and cooling system flushed
* Electric cooling fan fitted for improved reliability
* Electronic ignition conversion
* Crankcase breather pipes replaced
* Oil filter housing and filter replaced

Condition

The body presents well overall and remains remarkably straight for a 55-year-old Stag.

There is some corrosion around the sills, consistent with the age of the vehicle, but they remain generally sound. The chrome would benefit from refurbishment and the car will require recommissioning after its period of storage, including a new set of tyres before returning to the road.

The engine was started in August 26 but buyers should assume that normal recommissioning work will be required.

Included with the sale is the desirable original factory hardtop, an increasingly valuable and sought-after feature.

Summary

This is not a concours car, nor is it being advertised as one. It is, however, a genuine early Mk I Stag with its original Triumph V8 engine, relatively low mileage, factory hardtop and sensible mechanical upgrades already completed. It offers an excellent basis for sympathetic restoration or recommissioning by an enthusiast.

Early, original Stags are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly those retaining their factory V8 engine.

The car is located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Viewings are welcome by appointment.

Open to sensible offers.

This car brought us many happy years of soft-top driving. We stopped driving her regularly when our daughter was born, only because we were unable to fit a baby seat in the rear. This remains a much-loved car, but the time has come to sell her to someone who is able to restore her and love her once again.
