Approximately 77, 000 Miles – Long-Term Ownership – Extensive History – Major Engine Work – Full Repaint Currently Being Completed
A very attractive and well-documented 1976 Triumph Stag, finished in the wonderfully period and particularly striking Java Green.
Coming to us following a deceased estate sale, this Stag had been in the same long-term ownership from 2008 until 2025, when sadly its owner passed away, after which the vehicle was transferred into a relative’s name.
The car enjoyed continued use during his ownership up until approximately 2019, after which it was placed into storage.
The recorded mileage is now approximately 77, 000 miles, which is believed to be correct and is supported by the substantial history file accompanying the car.
Importantly, this isn’t simply a Stag that has been cosmetically prepared for sale. It comes with a considerable history file documenting maintenance and expenditure stretching back more than 30 years.
Extensive History File
We have invoices dating back to the mid-1990s, including numerous invoices from well-known Triumph specialists Rimmer Bros, together with MOT certificates and supporting paperwork.
One of the earliest MOT certificates retained in the file dates from approximately 2004, when the mileage was recorded at 68, 023 miles.
The car has therefore covered fewer than 9, 000 miles in more than 20 years.
During an earlier ownership in the 1990s, the Stag underwent a full engine rebuild, which is documented within the history.
Further substantial engine work was subsequently undertaken in 2011. This included the overhaul of both cylinder heads together with the installation of unleaded valve seats, at a cost of approximately £600, as well as further extensive engine rebuilding work supported by multiple invoices within the history file.
The car has covered only a relatively small mileage since these major mechanical works and today drives extremely well.
Further Documented Maintenance & Improvements
The history records considerable additional expenditure over the years, including:
* Replacement mohair soft top, supplied by Rimmer Bros in 2010 at a cost of £317. 13 excluding fitting. Remarkably, the hood continues to present very well today.
* New radiator, supplied by Rimmer Bros in 2010 at a cost of £223. 97, with relatively little mileage covered since.
* Aluminium header tank – £132.
* Chrome door-handle bowls, supplied by Tony Hart in 2010.
* Brake caliper set and brake pads in 2018 – £248. 04.
* Numerous further invoices from Rimmer Bros for parts and maintenance carried out throughout the car’s life.
This is in addition to the extensive engine and cylinder-head work detailed above.
Full Repaint Currently Underway
Moving forward to the present day, we have decided to properly prepare this Stag before offering it for sale.
The car is currently undergoing a complete repaint in its striking Java Green, rather than simply receiving localised cosmetic improvements.
The preparation includes removal of the windscreen and bumpers, allowing the paintwork to be completed to a considerably better standard and ensuring the finished car presents as it should.
At the same time, the front seats are being refurbished with new seat foams, improving both their appearance and comfort.
Once completed, this should be an exceptionally attractive Stag.
A Properly Maintained, Long-Owned Stag
What particularly appeals to us about this example is the combination of its history and provenance.
It hasn’t simply appeared following years of unknown ownership. We have paperwork stretching back to the mid-1990s, evidence of major mechanical expenditure, early MOT history and, importantly, continuous ownership by the same gentleman from 2008 until his passing in 2025.
With approximately 77, 000 miles, major documented engine work, very limited mileage over recent years and a comprehensive cosmetic refresh now being completed, this represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a particularly attractive example of one of Britain’s most iconic sporting grand tourers.
Finished in Java Green, with its freshly refurbished interior and comprehensive repaint, this is going to be a particularly striking Stag.
