Description
I've finally come to the sad conclusion that my X300 Executive has to go. It's barely been used in the last 18 months, although I keep it MOT'd and insured. I simply have too many other vehicles. I bought this car in England in 2017 and registered it in France, where I live. For a few years it was my daily driver (and I have to say the most dependable car I have ever owned and that includes several E and S class Mercedes). It could be used as is, restored or stripped for parts (which would be a shame). It flew through it's MOT in March, no corrosion, the usual trouble spots are sound, wheel arches, subframe mountings etc. The engine and g/ box are strong, both have had the necessary oil and filter changes over the years. I rebuilt the differential and replaced the upper shock absorber bushes at the front. There's a slight leak on the power steering which has never bothered me, as I just top it up occasionally. The wheels are clean and the front tyres are nearly new. The rears have plenty of tread but are ripe for renewal due to cracking. The bodywork can be descibed as scruffy, mainly because the laquer is peeling everywhere and now it's parked on a public car park I've noticed a few bumps and dings which weren't there previously. The interior is very good, it has the usual sagging headliner but the seats are excellent, and the bolsters aren't ripped. All the driving controls work as they should. Still has that lovely wood and leather smell as evidence of a watertight cabin. Air-con doesn't work, neither does the remote locking on the fob. Radio works, as does 6 disc CD player although it's difficult to read the fading display. I have the full service history up to when I purchased it at 68000 miles, then my own maintenance record to the present day (112000 miles) plus the spare keys/ valet pack, user guides etc. A bit of cosmetic TLC to the paintwork and a scrub up of the leather would really perk up this elegant and desirable saloon, or, as is, just a solid and mechanically sound car which has been well maintained and can be used every day and driven anywhere. Needs to go to a new home, as it's just sitting there, looking at me with those sad, doleful headlamps. Thanks, Mick
