Description

A superb example of Volvo's iconic 245 estate, presented in excellent condition and accompanied by an exceptionally comprehensive history file documenting the car from new.

This 1991 Volvo 245 has had three previous registered keepers and was purchased by me from a classic car enthusiast dealer in 2023. The mileage is currently just under 113, 000 miles.

The car has been garaged throughout my ownership and used as a cherished classic rather than everyday transport. It is normally SORN over the winter months and driven during the summer in good weather, being kept dry and protected when not in use.

It has been properly serviced and maintained throughout my ownership. A small area of rust on one sill was treated shortly after purchase, and the car has recently received a new battery.

The car presents extremely well both externally and internally. The interior is particularly well preserved, while the bodywork, trim and bumpers are all in very good condition. As with any 35-year-old vehicle, there are some minor age-related marks and imperfections, including a small number of marks to the bodywork and some wear to the front seats, which could be further improved with sympathetic attention.

The car drives very well, starts readily and remains a genuinely enjoyable and usable example of Volvo's classic estate.

The history file is a particular feature of the car, providing an unusually detailed record of its life from new. It includes the original 1991 pre-delivery inspection and purchase invoice, extensive Volvo servicing and specialist invoices from the 1990s and 2000s, and MOT certificates dating from 1994 onwards.

Documentation from subsequent registered keepers is also retained, including Volvo servicing records and a 'Best 200 Series' certificate, further reflecting the quality of the example. Since my purchase, it also includes MOT certificates and servicing invoices from 2023 onwards. A photograph of a selection of the extensive paperwork accompanying the car is also included in the listing.

I have greatly enjoyed owning the car, but a change in my circumstances and future plans means that the time is now right for me to find it a new home.

I am looking for the right buyer and it is important to me that the car passes to someone who will appreciate its condition, history and character. It has been carefully looked after throughout its life, and having continued that tradition during my ownership, I would like to see it remain in equally good hands with its next owner. I would rather wait for the right buyer than see it go to the first person who comes along.

Viewing is welcomed and encouraged. The extensive history file will be available to view with the car, and further photographs and information are available on request.

I bought this car in 2023 after a long search for a particularly good Volvo 245. What attracted me was the combination of its condition, originality, history and the way it drove. It had already been recognised as a particularly good example, having previously won the Volvo Enthusiasts Club 'Best 200 Series' award, and the opportunity to own such a well-preserved example was difficult to resist.

The 245 has always appealed to me for its combination of practicality, simplicity and character. It is a remarkably honest car: comfortable, spacious, exceptionally well built and enjoyable to drive without feeling precious or difficult to use. There is a real sense of quality and purpose to the design, with straightforward controls, excellent visibility and a spacious, highly usable interior.

What makes this particular car stand out is the combination of its condition, originality and unusually well-documented history. The original paperwork and servicing records, together with the documentation accumulated throughout its subsequent ownership, provide a fascinating record of the car's life from new. Few examples can offer such a comprehensive history.

My favourite thing about it is probably the sheer sense of occasion that comes from driving it. Despite its size and practicality, it has a character all of its own, and driving it is an experience that modern cars rarely replicate. It is comfortable and relaxed on the road, while retaining the distinctive character that makes a 245 so enjoyable to own.
