Description
1965 Volkswagen Beetle 1641cc – Tastefully Modified Classic
Reluctantly offered for sale is my 1965 Volkswagen Beetle, a genuine classic that’s been sympathetically upgraded to make it a fantastic, usable car while retaining its vintage charm.
The car has been extensively improved with a professionally built 1641cc air-cooled engine, featuring twin Weber carburettors, an electronic ignition, EMPI exhaust, uprated clutch, lightened flywheel and a Freeway Flyer gearbox, making it far more relaxed and enjoyable to drive on modern roads.
Specification includes:
* 1641cc engine
* Twin Weber carburettors
* Electronic ignition and Petronix coil
* EMPI exhaust system
* Freeway Flyer gearbox
* Uprated clutch &
Lightened flywheel
* Front disc brake conversion
* Lowered suspension for an excellent stance
* 12-volt conversion
The underside is solid and sound, giving confidence that it’s a genuine, usable classic. The paintwork has faded over the years and has developed an honest patina, which suits the car perfectly. It’s not a concours show car, but it always attracts attention and receives plenty of compliments wherever it goes.
It starts, runs and drives very well, with plenty of performance compared to a standard Beetle, while still retaining the unmistakable air-cooled character.
This would make an ideal weekend cruiser, classic show car, or entry into the VW scene without the expense of building one yourself.
Only for sale as I’m considering a change of classic car.
Viewings are welcome, and any inspection is encouraged. Serious enquiries only, please. Having always wanted a beetle since the age of 18, i finally had the means to buy one and after much searching, this car was bought from Type 2 Detectives, having apparently previously been owned by the owner of the business. I bought it already correctly lowered and with the disc brake conversion. I eventually decided that the 1200cc engine was too slow for the local roads and undertook the additional work.
The interior is excellent and standard with no rips or burns and no holes for speakers or stereo head units etc.
I am now only selling as my sons are now taller than me, and the three of us sadly cannot fit comfortably in the car.
